Massive littering at Trafalga square

This whole bit of conservatives concerning trolling over litter after protests is just their way of saying "how dare you protest!" and trying to come up with excuses as to why the Right of Assembly is being abused, somehow.

Honestly, I doubt they really give a crap about the cities being littered upon (they've been cutting Federal and State budget aid to cities since the Reagan Administration). So since I've been seeing Tea Partiers wring their hands with concern about litter on city streets I take it as fake tears and excuse to try and play in imbalanced game of trash Olympics (the biggest such claim was that the Tea Party rallies of 2009 produced less trash than the Obama Inauguration, but this fell apart when it was shown the claims of 2 million Tea Partiers were just 70,000 protesters who were around for just 4 hours.)

So when someone wrings their hands about protest trash in the city, be they Trump Defender or merely an off-the-shelf Lib'rul Hater, I find my eyes rolling. Hence why I first though this thread was a parody. Its a game they've played before.

And the game is that they don't want you out there protesting.
Judge not, lest ye be judged. Point out hypocrisy, expect to be called a hypocrite. Only those who are perfect, infallible, and free of any hypocrisy of any kind can speak up. That's the game human kind is so prone to play unfortunately. Just as unfortunate as it is to attempt to politicize litter in order to score points. Even I am guilty of saying something rather than coming up with solutions.

Perhaps the Trumpers should have pointed it out and offerred to help clean up. Perhaps ant-Trumpers should be called out their comrades and ensuring future protests are trash-free. The people near the middle on both sides are likely reasonable people and willing to be reasonable with eachother.

All demonstrations and protests leave behind trash. This is from a Woman's March.

There is also the basic fact that most Municipalities are actually quite effective at cleaning up the messes that crowds cause. It can take time, but in most cases the trash left by a protest pales in comparison to a non-protest gathering. Sports victory parades are a HUGE mess-maker. The only advantage in those cases is that the city knows a bit more ahead of time.

Certainly, any protesting group could do a better job cleaning up after themselves, there is almost always room for improvement. At the same time, anyone can post a cropped photo of trash after a protest and go into shirt-rending paroxysms with demands that the protesters be condemned to sackcloths and ashes. I'd prefer more of the former, but the latter gets tribe points.

Judging from William Parchers previous pic from yesterday, maybe, they just need more communists.

What a strange topic to stake out the middle ground on. Fools being trolled by the Daily Mail. Bigger fools embroidering it into disparaging comments about the protesters.

This was in England. Do you think we should've flown Trumpistas in from Whitebread Creek, Montana? There are people circulating in any demonstration (right, left, moderate*) admonishing demonstrators to clean up after themselves, quoting Mark Trail, "You carried it in? You carry it out!"

Sorry, there's no middle ground here. People making up **** and trolling the internet is not an area in which I plan to work out a compromise.

*Moderate demonstrations are rather rare. "We can't make up our minds!" doesn't make a great chant and their natural sympathizers can't make up their minds whether to attend.

And this is the other side of the "Protest Trash" coin: They're saying if the anti-Trumpers are hypocrites, it makes it okay if the Trumpers are hypocrites.

Of course, there's a small degree of difference between people who want to protect the environment littering, and say, people who claim they want to "protect women" calling them sluts for being raped.

If littering is the worst sin these guys can pin on the anti-Trumpers and other protesters, that's actually pretty good.

It's not an "accusation", it's an observation. These people are utter ******* slobs, whether congenitally or by upbringing.

"These people" as in these particular demonstrators, or - more accurately - demonstrators in general? You can also throw in various other public events, music festivals, etc. This isn't something unique to your bête de jour.

When the Pittsburgh Penguins won the Stanley cup a few years back, there were literal riots in the city. I was in my office at my old job catching up on work all night. I finished up around dawn. When I stepped outside, for just a moment, I was actually alarmed. The streets looked like the apocalypse had happened. Trash everywhere, huge city garbage cans knocked over, a few cars covered in shaving cream (?), smashed bottles, a few leftover drunks staggering through the streets.

It was like your usual Saturday or Sunday morning to the 20th power. Because "our" team WON. Happy riots are a thing, and they are messy.

Here's another event known for temporarily turning Steel City into Thunderdome - https://archive.triblive.com/local/pittsburgh-allegheny/chesney-pays-fee-for-2013-concert/. Every time Kenny Chesney comes to town, his fans essentially turn the North Side into a landfill. Not many communists among them...

I could go on all day. This is just so silly. Trash is not a partisan issue.

Are you aware that all large gatherings of people will generate litter?

It's been a while since I was involved in a protest, but it occurs to me that the piles of discarded placards might be by design, I can't see London Transport wanting everyone getting on busses and tubes with them.
