Merged Mass shooting at Batman premiere in Denver

Yay 2nd Amendment! USA! USA! USA!
Freedom isn't free. For the freedom to drive wherever we want whenever we want, we're willing to let thousands die in auto accidents every year. For the freedom to own guns, we're willing to let dozens die at the hands of a madman every couple of years.

Life goes on, except in those for whom it doesn't. As a father whose children often attend such midnight premiers, my heart goes out to the family and friends of the casualties.

At least you are honest about the consequences of your ridiculous (IMO) gun laws.

See, I don't view owning and carrying guns a particularly important "freedom". One outrage (Port Arthur) led to heavy restrictions on gun ownership in Australia. There hasn't been a mass shooting murder in the 16 years since.

The mentally ill in Europe do not have such easy access to guns.

Look I'm in favour of gun control, but this argument isn't going to hold any water after Anders Breivik. Where there's a will there's a way.

Yes! Freedom isn't free. Freedom costs a buck o five!

How come a 2nd Amendment hero never seems to be around to shoot the bad guy at times like these?

Where's Jack Bauer to save the day?

yes it still does, because its not so easy to get your hand on weapons, even when one crazy nutter got his hands on a lot of weapons.
Statistics however could destroy such an argument. but i guess also those are rather in support of gun control.

What I'm saying is that no matter what level of gun control you have, you're not going to stop these lone gunman nutjobs intent on killing a bunch of people. You may stop some, and possibly more in a society with greater control over firearms, but you'll never stop them all.

Gun control has a more general impact on crime, less guns in circulation mean less gun crime. It's not something you can apply to these sorts of specific situations imo.

nobody says they all can be stopped, the point is that the risk of such things happening is a lot lot smaller.

Seems to have worked pretty well in Australia. There were four or so mass firearm slaughters before the heavy restrictions after Port Arthur. None like them since.

I dunno, like i said I'm in favour of gun control. I'm Canadian lol. I just dont think there is a way to stop this sort of thing

Is Norway no longer part of Europe?
It doesn't count. Nor does that bomb in Bulgaria a few days ago, nothing to see here folks move along. The important thing is that Americans are uncivilized and should emulate Europe.

Except for that occasional eruption of genocide, but that hasn't happened in almost 15 years.

Does any one know roughly when these incidents started? I was thinking, there have been three in Britain, ever, but that starts with Michael Ryan in 1987. Then there's Thomas Hamilton in 1996 and Derrick Bird two years ago. I don't know what the frequency would be if Britain had the same incidence as the USA, adjusted for population.

What I was really thinking was, I'm not aware of anything in Britain before the 1987 Hungerford incident, even though gun laws were less strict in past times. Is this actually a modern phenomenon, or have there been examples all along but we've just forgotten?

Rolfe.

It's guns' fault. It's the media's fault. It's social networking's fault. It's the society who glorifies these incidents fault. It's bullying's fault. It's video games' and violent movies' fault.

You know, everything except the evil :rule10 who did this's fault.

Well it also helped that the gun lobby here also worked with the government to help improve gun safety and storage among gun owners.

Oh My Dog. Damn. If his screed motivated this I hope he dies of something particularly humiliating and nasty.
Haven't you guys learned anything after blaming Sarah Palin for the Giffords shooting?
