Marxism can elimimate global poverty

"The bourgeoisie, by the rapid improvement of all instruments of production, by the immensely facilitated means of communication, draws all, even the most barbarian, nations into civilization. It compels all nations, on pain of extinction, to adopt the bourgeois mode of production; it compels them to introduce what it calls civilization into their midst, i.e., to become bourgeois themselves. In one word, it creates a world after its own image."

So, in effect, Karl Marx actually predicted McDonaldsism. :o

He sure did. He also predicted the sense of alientation that a lot of us feel in a homogenized McDonalds world.

Down with our hamburger oppressors! Burger lovers of the world unite!

The TRUE symbol of oppression:

'Cause I'm sorely tempted to now...

Good grief. Do you even know what the words bourgeois and bourgeoisie mean? I'll help you out:

"Marxism defines the bourgeoisie as the social class which obtains income from ownership or trade in capital assets, or from commercial activities such as the buying and selling of commodities, wares, and services."

Here's some more bolding for emphasis:

"The bourgeoisie, by the rapid improvement of all instruments of production, by the immensely facilitated means of communication, draws all, even the most barbarian, nations into civilization. It compels all nations, on pain of extinction, to adopt the bourgeois mode of production; it compels them to introduce what it calls civilization into their midst, i.e., to become bourgeois themselves. In one word, it creates a world after its own image."

You can bold as much as you want, that doesn´t change the meaning of the text.

What Marx envisioned was capitalists exploiting their working class.

Capitalist globalization, on the other hand, as seen through Marxist eyes, would entail the exploitation of the working class by the capitalists of other countries.

I'm afraid the meaning of the text has escaped you. In your previous post you said the text refers to the global spread of communism. What is it that you are saying it means now?

The bourgeois mode of production is capitalsim. Marx is talking about a global industrial revolution that will sweep all previous modes of production aside - and this is facilitated by rapid advances in technology and pressure from wealthy powerful nations against "barabaric" feudal ones.

Here's another quote for you:

"The need of a constantly expanding market for its products chases the bourgeoisie over the entire surface of the globe. It must nestle everywhere, settle everywhere, establish connections everywhere."

The result that he predicted was class warfare with a global capitalist class and a global proletariat class. It didn't quite come about that way, for reasons this thread has already mentioned.
