Senator Marco Rubio of Florida has officially announced his candidacy for the 2016 republican nomination. Lets hope he can stay hydrated.
 
Just another power seeking douche that would eat his forst born if it furthered his political career.
I kind of like Rand Paul, I'm attracted to his vagina fur toupe.
 
Marco has a couple of things in his budget wishes that actually help poor people. Unfortunately, he doesn't have any way to pay for those programs. He wants to increase the social security net while cutting taxes.

The answer is simple, when republicans are president deficits don't matter. Just ask the last GOP administration.

I went to edit my post and couldn't, I meant to spell it toupee instead of toupe. I checked online for spelling and learned there is actually something known as a toupe, I'm sure it's something teabaggers are familiar with. I wish I hadn't looked it up.
 
Rubio is an idiot.

During a tense exchange with Kerry at a Senate Foreign Relations committee on Wednesday, Rubio confronted the former Massachusetts senator. “I believe that much of our strategy with regards to ISIS is being driven by a desire not to upset Iran so they don’t walk away from the negotiating table on the deal that you’re working on,” the potential GOP presidential candidate declared. “Tell me why I’m wrong.”

Kerry responded forcefully. “Because the facts completely contradict that,” he said, before offering to discuss more details in classified session with Rubio. But the likely GOP presidential contender didn’t take up the offer and pressed on with the line of questioning, claiming that the United States is going easy on terrorism because Iran does not support America’s campaign against ISIS.

“They would welcome our bombing of ISIS, actually, they want us to destroy ISIS, ISIS is a threat to them, it’s a threat to the region and I think you’re misreading it if you think there is a mutual interest with respect to Daesh [the Arabic name for ISIS] from every country in the region,” Kerry responded.

I just don't get why he's throwing in. Florida is too moderate to go with a far right winger, if that is his play. Jeb Bush is already going to play moderate and he's the former governor with a much longer and better detailed resume.

Cruz is going to take the Latino vote, if it is even that significant for Republicans. And he plays further right.

Rand Paul is playing Libratarian and he has a pedigree to do it.

And we're still waiting on bigger names like Santorum and Walker.

Rubio is going to resign from his Senate seat to run in an primary he has no chance of winning. He can't even hope to grab enough of a following to extort favors from the big dogs. I can't see him getting a big TV deal after, especially if Huckabee is going to campaign. FOX will deffinately prefer to reignite their relationship with Huck.

Rubio is best known for that State of Union rebuttal. He should be hanging back, let the other guys tear each other up, and take a bigger leadership role in the Senate after Cruz and Paul look like morons in front of the nation. Give us something to remember other than his cotton mouth.

As I said in another thread, it's going to be a bitter, bloody primary fight, with several circular-firing-squad debates and mud slung in every direction... and after months of this, a nominee will emerge from the cage, battered and staggering... and outside, wearing her fashionable fur-lined steel-toed hiney-kicking boots, waits Hillary.

There have been noises about him resigning but he doesn't have to. And the scuttlebutt isn't that he resigns effective immediately but that he announces he will serve out his term and not run in 2016.

The problem is the pressure within the party. If Rubio holds onto his seat while running for the nomination and somehow wins, then he has to give up the Senate seat. Florida law won't allow you to run for two offices on the same election. For the GOP this would mean not being able to mount decent candidates who would be willing to commit. It takes big bucks to win the nomination in Florida, and no one is likely going to be willing to commit if Rubio can keep his decision pending through the primaries.

So it's like a "party duty". The Dems do better in Presidential elections in Florida than in off-year elections. The GOP wants to hold onto that Senate seat, with or without Rubio in it. If Rubio runs, he almost assuredly has an easy task. The others? (Quick quiz - no looking it up: Who are those "others"? Only Florida residents could probably answer)

Given that, the strategy would seem to be to test the waters in a few primaries before dropping the Senate seat.

I agree, but I doubt his party cadre feels the same. By the time a few primaries have been gone through, they should already have campaigns for the Senate primaries under way. So Rubio "took one for the team" when he announced his run for the presidency and has already said he's not running for Senate. The current jockeying in Florida heavily favors Atwater, but he doesn't have a huge following and if the Dems can find someone to run, it could be a tight race. Looking it from the GOP's viewpoint, Rubio's announcement was correct in that it allows them to get their ducks in a row in a timely manner.

Scott's term as governor is up in 2018. Rubio probably runs for governor.

ETA: In recap... he hasn't "resigned"... there will be no replacement and no by-election. But he's cleared the path insofar as he's said he won't run. I reckon he could change his mind, but he'd better do that pretty soon, if he plans to. You make a lot of enemies in the party, otherwise.
