Personally, I like shows like 'The UFO Files' it helps me to understand what these people are thinking. Although, it's hardly History.

I saw an interview with Ermey once. He wasn't "in character" and was talking about being a drill instructor. He said something like "You're not really mad at this kid, but you want him to think you are". He talked about the performance aspect of it and how a drill instructor is positioning himself so that everyone else can see him too and hear the same lesson when "chewing out" some errant recruit. It was interesting to see him just being himself. Though I've heard from people that have worked with him on set that he's funny and quite a character. I loved him as the bats**t coach in Saving Silverman.
