Merged Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is /Born Jewish!

Is ahmadinejad actually an anti-semite? I thought he was just an anti-zionist. Anyways, I'm getting a strong feeling that there's a lot of lies going around about Iran in the same way we all thought Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

I'd want to put some links here, but I'm not allowed to. The point of these articles is that a lot of quotes from iran are either pulled out of context, or wrongly translated by an Israeli-run translating company.

Basically, instead of denying the holocaust ever happened, ahmadinejad would be talking about "A myth in the name of the holocaust", where he used myth in the true sense of the word. In that sense, myth says nothing about wether it actually happened, but it's a story to justify the israeli actions. After all, would they have been allowed to drive a country's inhabitants from their homes just like that if the holocaust never happened? In the same way, the story about the holocaust (which of course happened, and was a terrible tragedy) still works in favour of Israel politics and what they can get away with.

Also where ahmadinejad said he wanted to wipe israel off the map was apparantly way more subtle. Instead of annihalating israel, he was apparantly targeting the political regime in the country. Much in the same way that the US targets a political regime every 5 years or so.

WElcome back. I know that Hibernol packs a punch , but now that you're back you should probably catch up.

Essentially there were all these major street protests in Iran after a rigged election. You had moderate leaders directly and indirectly supporting these protests. There was a vicious state crackdown, but to literate observers, what this showed was that Iranian society is "democratizing" slowly, even in a repressive environment, and that Iranian moderates are unhappy with the hardliners like Ahmadinejad.

So, while the hardliners are still in power and there are show trials, and state torture and the like - the events showed most people that the Iranian people wouldn't put up with obvious electoral fraud anymore and that there was a fairly wide swath of Iranian power brokers that agreed with them.

Welcome back to the land of the living and don't wait for those apologies - they're not needed!
 
The story seems to be rather doubtful:
The article’s authors, Damien McElroy and Ahmad Vahdat claim that “Iranian experts” they consulted with have seen the supposed “Jewish name of Sabourjian –meaning cloth weaver” in a photo of Ahmadinejad’s identity papers from March of 2009. My main problem with this claim about the “Sabourjian” name is that the Iranian Jewish experts, scholars and religious leaders in L.A. I have interviewed today, have never heard of any Jewish family in Iran with such a name.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was born a Jew and converted to Islam, Britain's Daily Telegraph reported on Saturday.

The report cited a photograph from 2008 that showed Ahmadinejad holding up his identity card, bearing his former last name, Sabourjian, a common Jewish name in Iran.

And wasn't Hitler Jewish trying to hide the fact too. Kind of reminds me of latent homosexual skinheads overcompensating to show they aren't gay by beating some gay guys up. I guess the "stigma" is considered that bad for some people and the rest of us have to pay for their delusional feelings of inferiority

The Telegraph newspaper reveals that president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad appears to have Jewish antecedents, back in the 1940s when the family was still called Sabourjian (makers of Jewish shawls). This discovery was made via a photograph of his identity card, There have been many conversions from Judaism to Islam, many of them voluntary. In the real world people get all mixed up. Iran has the largest Jewish community in the Middle East aside from Israel itself. In the 19th century there were forced conversions of Jews to Shiism in the eastern city of Mashhad. Since converts intermarry with the majority community, this means that many Mashhadis have a Jewish great grandfather and may not know it. It isn't just Iran. One genetic study found that some 20% of the Spanish had Jewish haplotypes and 10% had an Arab ancestry. The revelation in Iran doesn't change anything; Ahmadinejad does not make his critiques of Israel with reference to his own heritage but on the basis of a radical interpretation of Khomeinist ideology. The latter in its full form is only a little over 40 years old, so for everyone in Ahmadinejad's age cohort, it is an adopted ideology for those who adhere to it, not an inherited one.

One more article which doubts the story:
Professor David Yeroshalmi, author of The Jews of Iran in the 19th century and an expert on Iranian Jewish communities, disputes the validity of this argument. "There is no such meaning for the word 'sabour' in any of the Persian Jewish dialects, nor does it mean Jewish prayer shawl in Persian. Also, the name Sabourjian is not a well-known Jewish name," he stated in a recent interview. In fact, Iranian Jews use the Hebrew word "tzitzit" to describe the Jewish prayer shawl. Yeroshalmi, a scholar at Tel Aviv University's Center for Iranian Studies, also went on to dispute the article's findings that the "-jian" ending to the name specifically showed the family had been practising Jews. "This ending is in no way sufficient to judge whether someone has a Jewish background. Many Muslim surnames have the same ending," he stated.

A minor scandal was caused in the Nazi party when Hitler's estranged nephew William Patrick Hitler (who was half-German/half-Irish) attempted to blackmail the Führer with the claim that his paternal grandfather had been the son of a Jewish merchant whom his grandmother had worked for. This was possible because Hitler's father was illegitimate and thus the identity of his paternal grandfather was unknown, and still remains unknown. Most historians today think the story that Hitler's paternal grandfather might have been Jewish is unlikely, however.
 
I'm not sure that suggesting that Hitler was Jewish is a smear, unless you have a more negative opinion of Jews than of Hitler.

Yes, in Nazi Germany jews were very popular and people often complimented eachother on their jewishness.
