Ed Madiba (Nelson Mandela) struggling.

Nelson Mandela is seriously ill in hospital in Pretoria, surrounded by his family. The old boy has a recurrence of his long-standing chest infection/ pneumonia problem, and if he happens to be spending some of his few remaining hours on the planet perusing the internet and sees this, I'd like to wish him well.

Now he really is struggling. Looks like death is imminent.

CT rumours in SA include one that he is dead already and the news is being withheld until ........dunno.........something important.

Is it co-incidence that Obama is heading to SA as we speak?

Yes, I don't think it will be much longer.

I think the president's trip to SA was planned well in advance though, so it probably is a coincidence. He is also planning to visit two other countries in Africa I gather (Senegal and Tanzania).

Mike, I doubt many know him as Madiba. It would be helpful to use Mandela. At least put it in parens. A mod can do that for you.

I only know "Madiba" because of the movie Invictus. I just hope he is being made as comfortable as possible, and I'm glad he has family around him.

Our local news service calls his situation "extremely critical". I suspect that's the final stop in the scale before "dead".

When he goes, the world will lose a great man. That is not a term to be used lightly, but here it does apply.
