I hope we see a wide-screen, (perhaps with a touch-screen) iPod with Wi-Fi features that are more useful and compelling than the Wi-Fi on the Zune.

I'm sure we'll see it this year but doubt it will be unveiled this quarter.

Why abandon marketing overpriced, sub-performance, proprietary computers, with mind-numbingly limited software choices, to the snob-elitist? It has worked - for large values of "worked" - for decades. Why ruin a good ruse?

I am hoping for (but not expecting) a replacement for the external iSight (which was pulled, in part because Europe had concerns about its materials). Newer models have an inferior videocam built in, so there is not a lot of reason for them to work on an external. Except for all those working with old macs, or in offices where cameras are not allowed (thus a market for macs without built-in video). Old iSights are now going for double price on eBay.

Apple is a business so the only meaning of "total defeat" that is applicable would be if they went bust and there is no evidence (that I'm aware of) that there is any real risk of that at least in the near- to mid-term.

Yes, but I'm not making space for one. Who wants to use a phone as a regular MP3 player anyway, draining the battery listening to music and then missing that important call?

No big deal. It will be mentioned, but I doubt Apple is pinning too much on it. It's a niche product which does too little and costs too much for the average consumer.

He'd better let rip with some really great Leopard features, as what we've seen so far is little more than a mildly useful service pack for Tiger.

A tablet-form Mac is not impossible, but there's no reason to expect one. A new series of iPods seems almost certain - if patents taken out by Apple are anything to go by, expect a viewing area that covers the entire face of the device, controlled by a touchscreen. An Apple PDA would be nice, but it isn't going to happen, unless the iPod features beefed-up organiser software, turning it into a de facto PDA.

If the Mac is so bad, why does Microsoft keep pinching its operating system? And when you compare the total cost of ownership, making sure you're comparing like with like in the quality department, Macs are not overpriced at all.

Microsoft obviously didn't pinch Apple's operating system.

If they had, Windows would work better.


On the other hand, they did take networking code from BSD and incorporate it into Windows NT. Somehow they loused that up too.

The trolling took much longer than I anticipated.

Assignment for Mac Haters at TAM:
Count the Apple laptops in use; count the non-Apple laptops in use. Since Macs have less than 10% of the market, surely 9 out of every 10 laptops will be non-Apple, right?

While you recover from the shock of your findings, kindly demonstrate that my conclusion is in error.

One's likelyhood to own use a Mac is proportional to one's propensity toward rational thought (such as that shown by TAM attendance).

And remember: If you want to see the PC of tomorrow, just look at the Mac of today. That's pretty much always been the case.
 
Wonder how hot the iPhone will run? If it's anything like my MacBook there's no way I'd be putting it against my ear.
