Machine Gun America

It is fun, can't deny it. I got to shoot a variety of full-auto weapons when I was in the army... The M60 machine gun, the .50 "Ma Deuce", the .45 "grease gun"... Even a WWII-vintage German Schmeisser that was standard issue for Norwegian forces.
I was in a National Guard armour unit; but never got to fire the Ma Deuce because I was a just a communications REMF (despite also being TC of the first-contact team). The M60 was fun, though, got to shoot that a few times. Also got to shoot an M16A1 in full rock and roll in training, before it got restricted to 3-round burst in the A2 version. Would have liked to fire the Grease Gun, but only tankers got those; and they aren't terribly accurate in much the same the way that the sea is not terribly far above the sky.

Although anti-gun types are aghast at this activity, the use of full-auto weapons in crime has been remarkably minimal. Since the 20s, anyway. Chicago typewriter, anyone?
There is only one instance of a legally-owned fully-automatic weapon ever having been used in a crime. And the owner/perpetrator was a police officer.

Be interested if they offered some historic Weapons I would be interested in shooting just to get the feel, like a Sten Gun or a PPSH 41.

I've been in the military, and I've shot many firearms. However, it will never cease to amaze me that the fascination that some people have with things that go boom and my complete disinterest in such things can exist in the same world. Seriously, I never considered shooting a firearm to be particularly "fun." I always considered it more of the lines of "boring" and "annoying."

I wasn't in combat arms though... ordinance corps.

I tend not to comment on these subjects as the US can obviously do what it likes, but what next?

Napalm Nevada and Cluster Bomb Colorado?

There was some speculation about air-tourism with a modified AC-130 over Somalia and the Gulf of Aden to help suppress piracy. But the organizers decided the ticket price would be too high for even the most enthusiastic gun owner. :D:D:D:D

My weapon was a MinuteMan III ICBM, after that anything else is all small arms.

Correct.

Clyde took one of their stolen BAR's and cut the barrel down to the gas nut, naming it the "scattergun," because when he opened up with it, "they" scattered.

Interesting. The welded together magazines sounds a bit much, although it's always surprised me that Browning thought that a 20-round magazine was sufficient.

The mag capacity is limited by the magazine's location - if you try to use a mag much bigger than the standard 20 rounder (some custom 25 round mags are out there) the thing monopods on the magazine - not a good situation.

The British BREN and the variuos ZB top feeders have no such limitation and have a quick change barrel in most examples, and as much as it pains me to admit it, those are better suited to the job than the BAR.
