Part of the reason I moved out here was for the drier, more stable climate. Back east my sinuses would flare up just before and during a rain storm along with my knees. For the most part, it's pretty much worked out. My knees aren't as persistantly stiff and achy. However, I do have the occasional sinus pain and pressure and not just when the rain comes. It was suggested to me that the Santa Ana winds might be the cause and I went off to look them up. One of the things I came across was the Los Angeles Almanac. Never being one to pass up useless tidbits of knowledge, I figured I'd poke about the site. So yeah, I click on "Mysteries" first.

Curiosity may kill the cat, but it also worsens the cat-mommy's headache.

These range from the silly to the "heard it about somewhere else!" category.

For example:

Silly:
The entry on vampires.

Heard it!:
Los Angeles's Nessie. Or maybe we should call it Lizzie. and The Curse of Griffith Park.

Entertaining:
Ancient Lizard People Civilizations. That's the kind of thing that would've gotten my childhood imagination boiling.

The rest is some ghost stories, Sasquatch sightings and a rain of rocks that, "A psychic researcher testified that the source was a poltergeist." I'll leave out Devil's Gate Resevoir. It's a mystery, but it's, well, fairly easy and unpleasant to postulate what might have happened.

Mostly amusing page though.

Jeez, everybody knows vampires live in LA--

I hate the Santa Ana winds. My nose has been bleeding off and on all day today. This is a great quote, however:

"On nights like that [when the Santa Ana blows] every booze party ends in a fight. Meek little wives feel the edge of a carving knife and study their husbands' necks." Raymond Chandler

...b****. Remind me of my heartache that the show is over. And that there was too much Spike! to Spike/Angel mocking. And that there's no more Lorne. Or Fred/Illyria. Or Gunn. Or... damn it!

Once I saw that it was a dry wind, I figured that it was drying my sinuses or something along those lines. Still, ow. I'll make it a point to never fly during this time then, too.
