I remember visiting an exhibition of his in late 80s. His paintings had been recently discovered in Russia and were touring the world at the time. His works were mostly from the post-revolution period, maybe 1920s. I recall several paintings of huge imaginary factory machines. Also I remember a few amazing pencil drawings, especially one with hundreds of hairpins. And some very small paintings, but with unbelievable detail on them.

I can't remember his name for the life of me and googling hasn't helped much. But I know that I'll recognize the name if I see it again. Any ideas ?

Not Kandinsky, he wasn't that well-known. IIRC his paintings were forgotten in an attic or something and were discovered during the 80s.

And not one from that site either. The works over there are mostly from 60s and newer. The painter I'm looking for was certainly most active during the 20s and maybe a few decades later.

I'm getting an "N" and an "I".....but the spirits are leaving me now... to, maybe someplace else,
i don't know.
