London murder rate overtakes New York for first time ever after spate of fatal stabbings and shootings

London's murder rate has overtaken New York City's for the first time ever, according to a new report.

February marked the first month the UK capital saw more murders than New York, with 15 dead (nine aged 30 or younger).

According to the report in the Sunday Times, London also suffered 22 fatal stabbings and shootings in March, higher than the 21 in the Big Apple.

Both cities have similarly sized populations of around 8.5m people. New York City's murder rate has decreased by around 87 per cent since the 1990s.

Meanwhile, London's has grown by nearly 40 per cent in just three years, not including deaths caused by terrorist attacks...

The apparent cause is explained in the OP. London's murder rate is rising while NYC's is dropping at the same time.

True, but it also should be said that New York has decreased it's murder rate by an absolutely incredible degree, we should congratulate them on that and look at what measures they've taken to accomplish this. There may be lessons to learn.

Only yesterday my elderly neighbour, who I recently helped get connected to social media, responded to my usual morning greeting with a peculiar hand gesture and, glaring at me from beneath her newly acquired hoodie, snarled, "Who you chirpin me in dem garms, bro! There's been some talk of applying some of the broken window theory concepts, but that requires a huge allocation of manpower. There's discussion of whether making heavier use of stop-and-frisk like NYC did would be a good idea, but that generates enormous controversy and a lot of pushback.

I hate to hear this and I'm an American living in Atlanta Ga. I thought guns were difficult to get in the UK??

it's by calling someone shot while driving, and then crashing into a telephone pole, death by motor vehicle accident. this way they don't have to do paperwork or investigate gang related shootings.

Well as long as they aren't shot with guns their deaths really don't count. People shot to death with guns are deader than people stabbed to death with knives. That's just science.
