Local News.

This happened not far from my town. I was on that stretch of road just two days ago.

LITCHFIELD, N.H. — A man is facing several charges after a crash Wednesday night on Route 102 in Litchfield that police said stemmed from a road-rage incident.

John Burke, 19, of Hudson, is charged with manslaughter - reckless, negligent homicide, first-degree assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated DUI - serious bodily injury, reckless conduct - deadly weapon, witness tampering and vehicular assault.

Police said Burke intentionally struck a motorcycle with his Toyota Corolla on Route 102 near Derry Road. Investigators said they believe he was intentionally trying to rear-end the motorcycle, which lost control and slid into other lanes.

An SUV on the other side of the road swerved to avoid the motorcycle and hit Burke's vehicle head-on, police said.

Unbelievable!

Three climbers fell 400 feet to their death. One climber survived and drove to a pay phone.

I know. I know. He found a payphone!

Potty-mouthed parrot goes viral, up for adoption in Fall River

A fowl mouthed bird, possibly racist, is up for adoption.

From the shelter's tweet:

This bird is rated R, parental advisory required, a real sour patch kid if one side was sugar and the other side was arsenic. When he says "cracker", we're not sure if he's using it as an insult or if he's asking for an actual cracker. He'll be all sweet and affectionate and then turn around and call you a slur. (Yes. A slur. No, we're not kidding.)But we love him and he dances to music so we forgive him.

That was a crazy scene in East Hollywood. From the CNN link:
Los Angeles Police Department Captain Ben Fernandes told The Los Angeles Times the driver was kicked out of The Vermont Hollywood for being disruptive before the incident. “From review of the video he went up to the sidewalk further down and when he hit bystanders it was an intentional act,” Fernandes told the LA Times. “He was pulled from the car, handcuffed by security and then beaten by bystanders before being shot in the back by an individual from across the street.”

Reminds me of an incident many years ago when I lived for a time in a pretty tough neighborhood in the Bronx. One balmy summer evening I was hanging out by the corner with a couple of the friends I'd made. A car came roaring off the avenue, making a screeching turn into our street. Three young neighborhoods girls -- maybe 12-13 -- had been crossing the street and they screamed and jumped out of the way. The driver had to slam on his brakes and then he made the mistake of yelling out the driver's side window at the girls. His rear windshield and taillights were busted out so fast that standing only feet away I wasn't sure who did it. Or how. The driver was upset, wailing, "Look what they did to my car!!!" A couple of the older guys called over. "At least you're okay. Be smart man, drive away while you still can." The driver looked dazed but...he promptly drove off.

I said to my buddy -- who'd grown up in that neighborhood -- "That was unbelievable." He laughed and said, "Hey man, I told you we don't mess around in this neighborhood. We for real!" I had to laugh too.

The quake yesterday around lunch time followed a 3.0 earthquake Saturday night. That one was also centered in New Jersey and felt in New York City.
An earthquake rattled New Jersey on Saturday, Aug. 2 and could be felt all the way through parts of New York City, according to the United States Geological Survey. The epicenter of the 3.0 magnitude tremblor was in Hasbrouck Heights, Bergen County on Saturday just after 10:15 p.m. ET, the USGS said. The area is about 15 miles northwest of New York City, where the quake was also felt, according to USGS reports. According to reports, the quake lasted for a few seconds before stopping. USA Today news link

No reports of injuries or damage from either quake. I was home Saturday night, at work yesterday but I have to admit, I didn't feel either one, though some of my family members felt both. Felt our house shake, a rumbling noise. That was about it.

On a local message board I use, some residents reported running screaming from their house, cowering in the street. One woman wailed, "Why is this happening now? What is going on!!??!!" My response? "Yeah, right."
