A copy of @arthwollipot's original thread for minor items of interest, not justifying their own threads, since the reorganisation.

Snow expected, so everyone's freaking out and all the groceries have been decimated. This is weird since it's the freaking Midwest and snow in winter should not be a new concept, but I guess it's been a while since we had significant snow here. So all the news is weather, weather, weather, and how people shouldn't panic, and then examples of them panicking.

eta: wait, is this for Europe only? Never mind, then.

Well you could create a thread for the Americas @TragicMonkey.
Snow is also forecast here, very cold today. So I'm snuggled under the snow leopard blanket with T and C. And the cats.

Well, instead of being all about snow and possible snow and we just had snow....my local news is all about rain and possible rain and we just had rain. Did you guys know that water sometimes falls from the sky? Because none of my local news stations did! It's new!!!

Not all the news comes from the paper. I was at the dump today and a discussion was going on about local politics, and the unfortunate event that one of the participants had attempted to be elected but failed owing to late declaration. He said he didn't have a lot of issues. "I don't mind paying the school tax even though I don't have a kid in school. And I don't mind paying the sewer tax even though I don't have a sewer. I just want a ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ smooth dirt road!"

Some things just aren't going to happen, at least not in mud season.

In today's exciting news, the new mayor of Fair Haven, Vermont, is Duncan. He won by a close one-vote margin. In case you're worried about single party dominance, he won against a field of 20 candidates who are like him, all dogs, as was his predecessor, but before that the winner was a goat. Fair Haven has a healthy attitude toward government, I think, and has figured out that it's cheaper and easier to elect a dog than it is to elect a person who behaves like one. If you come up that way with your dog and want to exercise and socialize, you can go to the Fur Haven dog park just down the road toward the airport, where the model airplane club meets for flights, since actual planes rarely land there unless they're in serious trouble.

Big news around here is that there was a wildfire in nearby Fair Haven. I was just out traveling and remarking that, with all the troubles and issues and alarms and excursions we're going through, at least where I live there aren't wildfires! So of course....
