Local News

Well the big news in my area of Southend is that we recently had a pride march with the local theme park hosting a drag act. This act involved some thrusting and an angle grinder. Seems to have left some of my fellow locals in a bit of a tizzy and the theme park owner refusing to participate in any more events.

In other news, a local produced some handy tips on how to spend only £10 on your weekly shop at Aldi.
 
In more local news, the leader of Ireland's main neo-nazi party Justin Barrett (former head of the Hitler Jugend Defence anti-abortion group until the rest of the anti-abortionistas got sick of his constant travelling to neo-nazi events) reported €400,000 of gold stolen that was being held for his "political party" the National Party. When Gardaí investigated they quickly satisfied themselves that the gold was properly held and there was likely no crime committed.

Why does a bunch of neo-nazis have a gold hoard I hear you ask? Because they think that the government is going to collapse taking the Euro with it and they'll be high on the hog with a (quite small) amount of gold come the apocalypse. This despite gold likely not having any value for hundreds of years after society collapse, given it's general uselessness as a substance for making tools with.

Rough sleeper used shopping trolley to dump fridge in Middlesbrough

A flytipper used a shopping trolley to dump a fridge saying it had been left where he rough sleeps.
Abbas Gravand became aggressive with council workers when they visited him as part of their investigation. The fridge dumping incident was investigated by Middlesbrough Council’s environmental neighbourhood safety team after being captured on CCTV.

Gravand pleaded guilty to the offence which falls under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and magistrates fined him £200.

After the hearing Cllr Janet Thompson, Middlesbrough Council’s executive member for community safety, said: "Flytipping is completely unacceptable and this man's behaviour has rightly been punished by the courts.

What's the point of fining a rough sleeper £200. If he had that kind of money he wouldn't be rough sleeping.

It could be argued he just moved something already dumped.

Escaped New Hampshire inmate shot and killed by police officer in Miami store

An inmate who escaped from a New Hampshire correctional facility was shot and killed by a police officer after threatening two people with a knife, officials said.

On July 21, Darien Young walked off the grounds of the Calumet House transitional housing unit — a facility for prisoner re-entry in Manchester — and didn't return, the New Hampshire Department of Corrections said in a news statement.

Six days later, Miami Beach police said they received a 911 call at 5:32 p.m. that a man was threatening two people with a knife at a Victoria's Secret. Police arrived at the location and an officer shot Young.

In a reasonable World, somewhere along the line, the perp would have been declared insane and locked up for his and society's protection. But it's cheaper to let such roam the streets.

Person in custody following alleged stabbing of two people on ANU campus

A person is in police custody and part of the Australian National University’s (ANU) campus cordoned off following reports of a stabbing on campus.

An ACT Policing statement said two people had been taken to hospital with stab wounds, along with a third person who was allegedly assaulted.

“ACT Policing and ACT Ambulance Service were called to ANU following reports of a stabbing incident at about 2:45 pm this afternoon,” they said.

“One person is in custody in relation to this matter and no other people are being sought by police.”
