Lindsay Lohan: Wanted Fugitive

What has happened to "innocent till proven guilty"?

I'm no Lohan fan, but you all seem frighteningly quick to conclude that she stole the necklace, without seeing/hearing/reading any evidence of the alleged crime.

What gives, fellow skeptics?

Good point. Barring a Winona Ryder-like kleptomania, what are the odds Lindsay would put on a necklace and walk out with it in plain view, with photographers snapping pictures?

My bet is it's crossed signals. She assumed everybody knows it's Good For Business to be seen in your shop, and either:

A. That's worth $2,000.

or

B. That's at least worth the loan of the necklace for a few weeks, for some show or other.

"You'll get your money's worth, cya." and a flustered employee goes "wut?"

If there's a problem it's with the arrogance over this. Sure, the shop might gladly pay $2000 for her to hang out there for half an hour -- but that's with an agreement beforehand.

Apparently young Hollywood likes to take their posses into clubs, drink up a huge tab, then leave without paying since (probably correctly) the club gains tons of business being known as a place where stars hang. That's fine -- as long as you make the agreement beforehand (even if it's just "hey, if I come in, it's free, ok?")

This might be that type of situation just out-of-control.

You know, that seems the most likely, if a bit unflattering.

My favorite kind of celebrity is the kind that would wait in line with everyone else, decline preferential seating, and pay their bill (or at least tip well if the establishment comps them).

In a situation like this I wouldn't even have involved police unless a request for the return of merchandise was ignored or received unsatisfactory response. On the other hand with LL's career going the way it is, it's possible the store was worried they'd wind up on the short end if she crashed and burned.

It might expedite her descent into softcore porn.

I'm not sure that actually will effect my life in any way though as I'm not particularly interested.

Haven't you ever met someone who couldn't get a story straight--to the point of constantly lying, sometimes--even when they bore no guilt?

Yes. I have. It is very common behaviour among children of addicts or otherwise abusive parents. Some of the time the constant double think makes them confused about what actually constitutes the truth and some of the time nothing is the right answer. You know the way this is going to go and selling out the truth during the first beating will only prolong things because then you have nothing to bargain with. You don't know which answer will placate the capricious authority so the truth is held back as a last resort.

The only way to deal with thus screwed up people is to be very, very consistent and proportionate in your response for a long time. It can take years for a kid like that to trust you to handle the truth.

Simply put, they are so used to everything about them "being wrong" that they assume that anything BUT the truth will be better for them. It breaks my heart every time I come across it.

(And yes. I know that some people are like that because they are airheads, but not everyone.)

Very compelling interpretation. Where did you learn this?

She has some experience with little kids. Some of whom came from very screwed up homes.

So, you've met my sister.

Read the rest of it. The judge is pretty certain that due to overcrowding, she'll do no time.

It's unfortunate. People who have made a hell of a lot less income aren't being allowed out due to overcrowding. They just make room for them.

Do you keep sending her back to serve 1 day every couple of months? You would think at some point it would become apparent that she has no intention of fulfilling the terms of her probation.

Hey, I'm with you on this one. She needs to do the time, and maybe a bit more for continuing to play games with court orders. At some point, hopefully before she's 40 and living on Welfare, (no doubt just to piss MHaze off), she needs to get the point that her behavior is what's getting her into trouble.

For that matter, as long as she's part of the Freak Show, she'll still get roles. People are going to want to see just how badly she screws things up. It's even more entertaining than the Crush Crash.

I wonder if she's on the train to Amy Winehouse-ville?
