Lighting candles just by staring at them?

Wouldn't the straightforward way to do this trick be to get somebody from the planet Krypton to use his x-ray vision to light the candle?

Of course, JREF probably keeps a supply of kryptonite lying around to foil people from kryptonite from succeeding with this kind of scheme.

It's too bad Kramer doesn't post in this sub forum any more, he might have told us about how JREF stops people from star systems with red planets from using their special powers to pass the test. On the other hand this might be the kind of thing that JREF considers propietary knowledge and Kramer wouldn't write about it anyway.

You know what would be cool... Lighting cigarettes like that.

Go to a woo party and you could pick anyone up. Wait for someone to get a cigarette out, offer to light it, and then just stare at it for a second or two until it lights.

I think I have to learn this trick.

Wasn't there a sci-fi short story by Harlan Ellison about a pyrokinetic whose party trick was lighting cigarettes that way?
