At an emoitonal level, since I think Hamas' leadership are a bunch of dickheads who have derailed a possible solution to a very hard to solve problem, I'd agree with you, but objectively, I think differently.Perhaps. That's not a reason not to do it, though.
What is the political gain, medium to long term, from using the standard Apache and a few Hellfires to whack a few dozen Hamas leaders? OK, for a few weeks, Hamas has to sort itself out.
Meahwhile, in the Media and Symbols war, Israel takes some heat, AND, on the Palestinian Street, reconfirmation of Israel is bloody handed arseholes occurs, which plays into the new Hamas leadership being from a hardcore section of Hamas, versus a few who might be more willing to work with Abbas.
While the satisfaction of whacking those guys might feel good for a while, the long term aim is not advanced. Now, if one could arrange an explosion that looked like a rival Pal faction did it . . . well, now we're talking about a way to deflect blame and turn Hamas anger elsewhere, while leaving an opening to engage in the next round of Pal/Isr talks (if talks there are to be) with clean hands.
