Merged LHC has its first high energy collisions! 7 TeV

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8593780.stm

HA!! Clearly the so-called journalist who 'wrote' this piece knows NOTHING about the subject or the so-called people he's dealing with.

Quote;
'This marks the beginning of work that could lead to the discovery of fundamental new physics'
HA!. Doesn't he know that so-called scientists with their supposed degrees don't want new physics. Those Close-Minded fools don't want to find out ANYTHING beyond their preconceived notions of how the UNIVERSE works. That's why they've spent billions on this false-(crypto-Israeli)flag operation, to STOP ALL other research in it's tracks!!!111!!!

Sorry, too long spent in the Conspiracy Forum...

7 TeV collisions at last!
Uncle Gomez will be thrilled!

So when wil the event horizon reach the southern US? I wanna know how much time I have left ;)

Good news, I'm glad to see the thing finally starting to run. I'm hoping we get a bunch of completely unexpected results...because in science, that's where the fun starts!

Reminds me of a quote (can't recall the source): Most of the interesting discoveries in science don't start with someone yelling "Eureka!". Most of them start with someone looking at the experimental results and going "Hmmm, that's wierd..."

aah now i know what this huge black hole in front of my door is.

could you see anything?

During that conference, they showed the (I think) Atlas collision as perceived by the computers (not a fake animation, they said, but the real collision). It was pretty intense.

cant wait to watch news tonight :)

LHC has now had its first real high energy collisions at 7 TeV.

It's worth remembering that while it's now up to its initial operating energy, the LHC had already set the world record for high energy collisions (man-made ones at least) before Christmas. It's not so much "The LHC has got up to high energy", but "The LHC has got up to even higher energy".

I believe it's an Asimov quote.

oops, I think it wasn't Atlas but CMS.

Can anyone explain in simple terms what is meant by a beam of protons at 3Tev? I think it means just the speed or equivalent energy, but I am not sure. How does one measure such a thing? Does it mean you need 3TeV insulation in the beam tube? This is something I thought I sort of understood, but I'm not so sure now.
