Let's watch the liberals rationalize

Possibly more pertinent to this debate is that although the commandments say thou shalt not kill, Leviticus clearly states that sodomites should be put to death.

W3ell, not really the reference is also to temple fornicators who come and have sex with you to increase the fertility of your fiields.

Didn't god say it was better to spend your seed in the belly of a whore than to spill it on the ground.

The major prohibition in leviticus, it gets mentioned like a hundred times, is to not boil the kid in the milk of the mother.

Its the conservatives who have the problem. THey hate blacks, and they hate foreigners, and they also hate gays.

...and you HATE people like that!

I guess they'll fall back on the old standbye and "blame the jews".

Nah, that's now the left's prerogative, under the (wink-wink, nudge-nudge) "anti-zionism" crusade.

I can blame the Jews? That's a relief, for a moment there I thought Ed had me in a bind.

If you didn't do it, I would have;)

And, no, Cleo. Even if you worm the Parthanon in here, you are not getting back the damn marbles. Stop asking:D

Well, the references are Lev. 18:22 and Lev. 20:13 and they are specifically about two men having sex with each other. The same chapters also forbid quite a lot other sexual relations, but temple prostitutes are not mentioned there.

Didn't god say it was better to spend your seed in the belly of a whore than to spill it on the ground.

Where exactly? Is this a garbled reference to the story of Onan (Gen. 38) whose crime was that he didn't want to father a child who would have been legally his brother's?

The major prohibition in leviticus, it gets mentioned like a hundred times, is to not boil the kid in the milk of the mother.

Did you check Leviticus before issuing that claim? Can you point out, say, 10 of these hundred places? Five? Two? One?

With a quick search I found only one place and that was in Deut.14:21, a completely different book. [But I have to admit that this particular query showed that my Bible search engine has a bug so I can't be 100% certain that there is no such reference in Leviticus.]

How will liberals deal with this? On one hand you have the darlings of the left, the Gay community on the other, the favorite pets of the progressives, Black folks. I would bet that the "pet" attitude will prevail, something that is a reference to "cultural differences" which, translated means "well, they have bones in their noses so we have to make allowences". I also wonder how vocally the right of Africans to to have a dissenting opinion regarding a loved group will be handled.

I guess that this is not the kind of diversity that they care for. That and diverse politcal views expressed on campus.

Edited to add: "It's Psironic!" [/B]

The technical term you are looking for is straw man . Your post reveals only the depth of your own ignorance. No one with any sense is going to defend the words you have placed in their mouth.

As for the real-life situation you have glommed on to, it only reveals that no one has a monopoly on prejudice.

Rationalize what? Are you seriously suggesting that "all blacks think alike"??? Don't you know there is a difference between African American and African cultures, or do you automatically lump people into one catagory because of something like skin color? There are homosexuals and homophobes in any community, conservatives and liberals and every mix inbetween. So what, exactly, does the fact that church leaders in Africa think about homosexuality supposed to prove, to either conservative or liberal? You need to examine your assumptions. Unlike many conservatives, most liberals don't subscribe to racism.

I suspect Dancing David is referring to Leviticus 18:3, which prohibits Hebrews from adopting the cultural practices of the Egyptians and Canaanites, of which temple prostitution was one aspect.

I got this info from religioustolerance.org's page about homosexuality and the bible, which has got an interesting discussion about what Leviticus actually meant/was intended to mean, rather than the interpretation bolted onto it with KJV.

LW,
you have caught me out, I ahve destroyed a bible in recent history, but i haven't read one for about twenty years.

The stuff about the prohibition against boiling the kid in the milk of the mother is somewhere in that big old book, somewhere in the first three books of the book, sorry, as I get older my memory gets styranger.

And the bit about temple fornication is from the friend of a frien, I don't actualy know the source.

Sorry, the bible reads like stereo instructions, the last time I read it, I quit around numbers 31

It is always useful to have a working knowledge of the bible, but if that is too painful, well thank God for the internet. (irony intended)

This link is a bible search engine that will help you locate those troublesome passages. For example, when I input "kid" and "milk" and select the King James Version, I get this.
Exodus 23:19
The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring into the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.

Exodus 34:26
The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.

Deuteronomy 14:21
Ye shall not eat of anything that dieth of itself: thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is in thy gates, that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an alien: for thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.
