Less ice in the Arctic Ocean 6000-7000 years ago

6000-7000 years ago, we didn't have nearly 7 billion humans living on the planet (3 billion of them within 60 km of the coast). I'm not worried that the Earth can survive fairly dramatic climate changes (as it has in the past). I'm worried whether and how our society can survive.

Actually, there is evidence that there was NOT any huge loss of ice in the arctic 6000-7000 years ago.

Permafrost.

The same permafrost that is all melting now did not melt then.

LANDED ice integrates heat over time.

And debunks the lies in the OP of this thread.

Have a nice day!

I'm out to have fun.

Since the climate always changes, we will just adapt.
We adapted during and after the World Wars, too. I suppose that means that if WWIII started in Poptech's country, he'd be perfectly calm as the bombs started dropping over his town.

Droughts are nothing new...
Neither are tsunamis. The East got back on their feet after the Christmas Tsunami. Therefore, tsunamis are nothing to be afraid of.

Come on, Poptech. Surely you understand yourself how illogical your reasoning is.

Poptech I though you're claiming that Global Warming isn't even happening so what's thing about "melting glaciers has happened before" and "we will adapt"?

I will take my chances with the human brain.
Not if you refuse to use it to address the problem of climate change.

BTW adaptation generally happens at the population level. (Fit variants survive and those not fit to the new environment die off.) It's not something you think your way through. Your response that we'll just adapt seems like a way of saying we don't need to solve these problems using our brains.

Read "Cadillac Desert" and weep.

The clock is running and we, more or less up to now, have done little or noting to deal with impacts we as a species are visiting on this planet. The evidence is there for all to see.

We can pray, we can hope, we can wish, we can believe whatever woo we want. The Universe (or Earth) doesn't give a rat's patoot.

We have, I think, the ability to do something. It's just that, really, we're collectively not doing much.

As The Master would say: "This too shall pass."

It's a strawman answer, really, as it implies we believe AGW will extinguish us as a species. As I said in the other thread, of course this isn't the case. We will adapt (new buzzword of the AGW deniers), as we did during the Black Death and the World Wars. The societies of various countries will go on, as they did when the huge Christmas Tsunami struck. Dresden, Hiroshima and Nagasaki were destroyed by bombs, and are still going today. People still live in New Orleans, even after it was nearly completely flooded.

Does this, however, mean that Global Warming is harmless? If it's real, which it is, of course not. People adapted to the nuclear bombs, tsunami, and black death - that is, the ones that survived. What about the ones that didn't, Poptech? If WWIII broke out tomorrow and the air raid sirens warned of a nuclear missile headed for your hometown, would you relax with a coke in your bomb shelter and listen to your favorite music, completely calm, and soothe your loved ones with the knowledge that "we will adapt"? I think not.

ETA: next time someone brings up 9/11, terrorists, 'Islamification', crime levels or other fears, I'll reply that oh, these things have happened before and we will adapt.

My guess is the serious climate guys are resigned to 550 ppm + but are making noise enough to perhaps blunt it.....

That MIT set of scenario's was pretty dire even on the low end.

WWIII has nothing to do with climate change.

Neither are tsunamis. The East got back on their feet after the Christmas Tsunami. Therefore, tsunamis are nothing to be afraid of.
Which has nothing to do with Global Warming.

No I am actually very logical.

I have provided evidence from the Geological Survey of Norway that the ice in the Arctic Ocean has melted in the recent past more so than it is now.

Some more on melting ice...

Based on what we know now, in the next 100 years a rise in sea level of 0.1 meters (4 inches) would not be surprising; those predicting changes of 0.5-2 meters (1.5-7 feet) are using flawed models.
