LEGO Sets Honoring Woo-Woos?!

The LEGO Group has put out many haunted house sets before, all in the name of fun and stuff (this Creator set is probably the best one: https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/haunted-house-10273 )... But, this is ridiculous! As we enter the second quarter of 2021, LEGO is going to be releasing the first wave of their Legends of the Spirit Realm collection, designed for collectors 18 and up. Sets, so far, seem to include:

The Amityville Horror House - This includes a front facade of the house. It is not a full house model, but it does seem to have some decor on the inside part, including a couple of ghosts. But, it ALSO includes minifig depictions of Ed and Lorraine Warren, if you can manage to believe it! Ugh.

The Transcendental Meditation chamber, with what looks like a minifig depiction of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, complete with a fancy name plaque for him, and a rig to make figures look like they're flying in a weird, bouncy sorta way. This was an insanely stupid idea to come up with!

The Legends of Ramtha, with a minifig depiction of J.Z. Knight. But, I find this to be particularly funny: It actually comes with a couple of different parts for different versions of Ramtha, the "ancient warrior", in order to cover all of the various inconsistencies in how he was described by Knight, over the years. You get to build your own canon Ramtha, apparently, because his author can't even get him straight! Is that not a joke?!

The ONLY set that actually looks like it might be kinda fun, if and when it becomes available, is the Winchester Mystery House! This is a full house model, meaning it has outer walls on all sides, and is not merely a facade. When you open it up, there seems to be a lot of interesting ways you can reconfigure the "maze" interior of each floor! This would actually be so cool, unlike those other crazier, more shameful ideas.

There are NO Uri Gellar nor Sylvia Browne sets, yet. But, who knows what we can imagine would be in the second wave?!

More details can be gleamed from their official preview video, if you are interested:

I, for one, think would be rather unwise, risky, and reckless for LEGO to ever promote stuff like this, among other synonyms for those words.

I think it sounds cool. What's the difference between this and say a haunted house? Or the Harry Potter series?

Can't say as I think TM or Ramtha sound interesting. But the Winchester House, that sounds intriguing.

But realistic stuff from documentaries, like the LEGO star destroyer I have, that will remain right?

No - they are reevaluating their entire catalogue and it will only be verified “factual” sets as they put it from now on, the first issue of the new catalogue is due in April.

APRIL FOOLS!

I'm not sure if I really fooled anyone with this one. Some of you seemed to respond with some semblance of seriousness, but can't tell if it's genuine seriousness-ish or in-on-the-joke style. Though, MOST posters clearly weren't fooled at all. Oh well.

I like to keep a running list of these threads of mine, so I can find them all more easily.

You almost got me, then I remembered what day it was.

For the record, I wouldn't have found any of those sets objectionable. If your post had been serious, I would have girded up for a lively argument about it.

Meanwhile, let's not forget the time LEGO accidentally sponsored a Concentration Camp set.

I was fooled, maybe because I really really wanted there to be a Winchester House LEGO set. :(

But Kudos Wowbanger, I was convinced I wouldn't see any Fools Day jokes and decided it was like most holidays, when it's over I won't care that nothing happened.

I am reminded of the big one when a certain person who must not be named went and changed a whole bunch of member's descriptions in their titles and subsequently got in big trouble for it, not supposed to be having admin powers and all.

LEGO NEVER sponsored that! The artist, Zbigniew Libera, simply lied about that on the printed boxes. All LEGO did was blindly sell him a bulk quantity of pieces, not knowing anything about his plans.

This whole thing lead to LEGO changing its rules over who gets to buy their bricks in bulk. At some point, they denied a sale to Chinese artist and political hotbed, Ai Weiwei. That got people angry at LEGO, and lead to LEGO changing the rules, again.

Today, buyers are told, directly, to NOT claim LEGO 'sponsored' your project. Agreeing to that is part of the contract for buying bulk pieces from them, so if you violate it, they probably WON'T drop the subsequent lawsuit.

Really? And endorsement and celebration of woo-woos?

Well, perhaps I should have elaborated more on how the sets would have championed the existence of spirits as a reality, as much as their NASA sets claim the space vehicles are reality, or something. Maybe that would have riled people up, more.

Would you have felt angrier if I claimed they were making sets out of Uri Gellar or Sylvia Browne? I opted not to do that, this time, because I felt it would be a bit too unbelievable, and too on-the-nose for this forum.

Ah, you were one of the ones I couldn't tell.

Yeah, those were.... fun... times, I guess.
