Latest computer security baseline

They forgot three of the most important things you can do to keep your computer safe: be careful which sites you visit, be careful what you download, and be care which email attachments you open.

And be suspicious of links even from friends. (I had cleaned few days ago computer from infection from such link)
 
And remember that there's no such thing as "free".

Why would someone spend a lot of money advertising a "free" screensaver? There has to be a catch somewhere. :oldroll:

Ahhhh, Rose, what are you trying to say? That by posting some free advice on the way to set up computer security I'm trying to snag you with a security problem? Woody Leonhard has been writing this newsletter for about 15 years, afaik, since, I believe, the days of the old Byte magazine. His consolidated Windows newletter has incorporated four previous newsletters about windows, including the LangaList. He runs about five other newsletters, including Access Secrets, Office Secrets and a number of others. He is into publishing and is making money off the advertizing. I don't think he is sending out bad information.

I do know that there have been discussions in the past about security, the various software packages and hardware items, both from the viewpoint of security and cost effectiveness. I thought this would be helpful.

My comments weren't directed at you personally, nor was I attacking Woody Leonhard. In fact, I own one of his books and I have one of his websites bookmarked. I was just adding to what the article stated -- I never said it contained bad information.

As for "preaching to the choir", all I meant was that those posting on this thread probably knew these things already. In fact, the majority of the people posting on this forum are more computer-savvy than the general public.
