Neanderthals were squat, stout and muscular looking lads, bit shorter than the average human.

Interestingly, they were possibly slightly taller than the Europeans that they shared the planet with. Reference here. This is obviously shorter than modern humans today, but nonetheless, it shows that our view of Neanderthals is slightly skewed by our modern perspective, and particularly by our very recent general height increase.

They had approx. the BMI of a modern American, which, considering that a third of Americans are obese, means that they really were big lads in terms of body shape, even if not in terms of height.

I wasn't making any points about the suitability of Neanderthal as a candidate for BF. That isn't something I would waste my breath on. Mine was just an aside on the common perception of Neanderthals.

So with 'Thals being under our own modern average, I can't see them evolving to outgrow us by as much as 6 feet (in some cases)

Of course not, but.......

They were taller than our ancestors. If there was sufficient evolutionary pressure, and possibly a change in nutritional inputs (as in our case), and (the big one!) they had survived to be extant now (which of course they haven't), then there is no reason at all why they couldn't be or wouldn't be substantially taller than we are now.

I wouldn't waste too much thought on this line of speculation, personally, because I don't think that a Neanderthal origin is even considered seriously by many avid footers. There are a number of human ancestors which have a much higher level of support. Homo heidelbergensis is quite popular.......

That's the thing with Squatch, it isn't a consistent reality, it's a constantly changing beast, which is indicative of a myth.

Are you on a campaign to get your post count as high as possible?

Eight one line posts on this page alone, and a single two liner.......

GS, your posting style in all the Bigfoot threads is like you are in a chat room instead of a forum.

Just out of curiosity, what is the general reply to claims of Bigfoot or an "unknown upright creature" (AKA Bigfoot) CHASING someone through the woods?

What could explain that. I'm thinking a bear standing upright at first then giving chase.
