Laser Headlight

Why would anyone want laser headlights? The major distinguishing feature of laser light is that it doesn't spread out. Why would you want a headlight that only illuminates a small circle ahead of you?

This is what I was wondering. I think the answer is in the quote posted by RobDegraves:

Laser light is dangerous to your eyes because it’s extremely concentrated and focused. The white light produced by the excited phosphorus is not

These aren't laser headlights. They're headlights that use a laser to excite phosphorus, and it's the light emitted by the phosphorus that is actually used to provide the light. So while it's the lasers that make the headlines, it's actually more like a fluorescent bulb.
