The L.A. Times reported yesterday that Auxiliary Bishop Gabino Zavala's resignation has been accepted by the Pope......phew! What a kind gesture!
Why were this hypocrite's transgressions suddenly revealed-- after more than 12 years? Anyone care to comment? Or is this not worth discussing?

Yeah these days you would have thought the Pope would be bloody pleased when he learnt things were improving and it was consenting adults.

Mind you it does show the Pope's values, abuse children over decades and you'll be discreetly moved to a backwater, but have sex with an adult women!? Well he's not having any of that in his church!

Actually. S and I did have it in a catholic church. In the choir loft. And the sanctuary annex. And the fellowship hall. And you wouldn't think so, but it is quite possible for two relatively small people to comfortably have it in your average three quarter-enclosure pulpit. And on one memorable occasion, three of us. Mind the rug burns, tho, and don't tell anyone about the little stool the priest stands on to look more imposing while sermonizing.

Technically, only S is going to hell over it, since zie instigated the whole thing and was the only believer out of our little ménage à-postles creed...

Actually, there have been quite a few cases of Catholic Bishops, Monks, and Nuns having children over the centuries. Sometimes they leave the church and sometimes not.

I also find it astounding that the Church hierarchy either had no knowledge of or didn't want to bother with this long-lasting code-of-conduct violation of a "higher up".
After 12-14 years, Benny16 FINALLY put a stop to it? Well, not really--he accepted the resignation of Zavala...you'd have thunk they'd fire the bugger instead of waiting for him to resign!
I'm not aghast that he had sex (thank goodness NOT with a child), but he ought to have had the decency to quit the ranks of the freeloading hierarchy, BEFORE deciding to give in to his sexual urges, doggamnit!
