Kyrie Irving, Flat Earther

If it's a wall, can't they just go in any direction? Why do you have to go south if it surrounds us?

Flat Earthers think the edge is south, north is at the centre of the disk.
It upsets them if you ask how a magnetic compass works on their flat earth or how star trails appears to show a south pole.

I think you're only half right. It's true in one way that the roundness of the earth doesn't make much difference in our lives, just as, say, the quadratic equation or the distance from the moon or the value of pi. You don't have to keep things that are true at the front of your attention, or even in manhy cases to remember them. But denying it is far more important, I think. Because, not to put too fine a point on it, denying it is insane, and that's pretty significant.

Yes, that is my point, too. A fair portion of people may be indifferent to the shape of earth, but at least anywhere people go to school, the default assumption would be that Earth is round.

On the other hand, it is obvious to everybody with good eyes, or binoculars that the Earth is round, or otherwise it would be possible to see all of a ship that is far away, and not just the top part.

This was obvious to the ancient Greeks, to the extent that they even calculated the circumference of the Earth, and got it quite right.

I just get confused as how the sun can set over the ocean if the horizon is a myth.

It's obvious (in the true negative sense of course) that the more obvious a thing is the more evidence there is that alien brain worms have corrupted your mind. You need to rush out and get a homeopathic remedy for your neurotoxins.

Flerfers will tell you that is because of refraction, reflection, 'the law of convergence' and atmospheric distortions.

They will not tell you how any of that is supposed to explain ships disappearing from the waterline up or the sun setting but it does.
