The audio isn't exactly overwhelming. Walker sounds like all the politicians I talk with around here. Even among their supporters they never drop the campaign talk. Walker lies to Koch saying the demonstrators are mostly from out of state, just as Walker claims in his appearances.

Walker comes across as someone who thinks getting rid of unions is the most important thing he can do. It is very clear from the conversation, this is not about the budget whatsoever, it is all about busting the unions.

I think that is the important thing the tape reveals.

Well you can bet a defense attorney will try to claim the request was sufficiently disguised in generalities.

But something tells me, given the publicity for this embarrassment and the publicity of the ass squirting vodka drinking security guard picture, Walker's chances of re-election are slim to none. Unfortunately that won't help WI workers in the short run. That is, unless it gets bad enough a few of the state Repubs who still think they can be re-elected decide to throw Walker under the bus.

Of course, a critical thinker would point out that Walker is doing what he said he would do during the campaign. The result of which is he...ummmm...got elected.

Actually, no.

Gov. Walker is a real Koch lover :)

Btw, I found out tonight that, by pure chance, I know the significant other of the person who punked Walker in this phone call.

I haven't followed the details of this story, but am I correct to assume that the real Koch and Walker are not familiar with each other?

If so, it's seems to showcase an odd angle about the notoriety the Kochs have had in the last year or so. They seem to have popped up as the "Soros-of-the-Right" puppetmasters in the minds of many folks on the left. Some on the Right have played down their influence, attributing such thoughts to conspiracy-mongering liberal thinking. I've tended to agree with that notion, dismissing the handwaving over the evil all knowing Koch brothers manipulating the conservative polity behind the scenes.

What's interesting here is that we have an actual conservative governor, seemingly buying into this Koch mythos enough to accept a phone call out of the blue and shoot the breeze, discussing a laundry list of these liberal suspicions, Koch-ian intentions and dirty tricks, without sounding dismissive or disrespectful. As if Walker wanted to draw from the machiavellian well of master Koch that the Right has played down.

The real Koch donated the max allowed some $43,000 to Walker's campaign. But they hadn't met, or at least they didn't know each other.

There's one glaring difference. Soros' political philanthropy is just that, intended to many people but not himself. The Kochs' political endeavors are all aimed at increasing their own personal wealth.
