Killer dolphins baffle marine experts

The problem with this article is the intial assumption: "the normally placid dolphin". Dolphins are always given the image of being fun-loving, caring animals that like nothing better to help others. This just isn't the case. Sure, they are friendly and helpful sometimes. And other times they're vindictive and vicious. Torturing baby porpoises is fairly extreme, but this is by no means the first example of dolphins being nasty.

I did not read the article; however, why is it so shocking that dolphins are violent? The orca, aka Killer Whale, is the wolrd's largest species of dolphin, and it has always been know to be rather brutal.

I'm sort of with robnson. I'm sick of every little detail in the world said to be "baffling" scientists.

Also, we've known about violent dolphins for decades! I've seen dolphins killing seal pups for sport, getting in proverbial gang wars with porpoises, gang raping females in other pods and getting in petty fights with each other on national geographic / discovery channel / animal planet a bunch of times.

****, the press can never get science right...

The word baffled has a specific meaning. Using it to describe a scientist who is ignorant, or learning something new, is baffling.
