KFC advert in Australia offends some Americans

I heard about this the other day and just rolled my eyes. I wouldn't say Americans were offended, just a couple rich white "e-journalists" with nothing better to do then troll youtube looking for anything not homogenized for network broadcasting so they can scream "racist!"
It's sad how, spoiled people with no real conflicts to deal of their own, have to go around inventing conflicts to add meaning to their lives... further evidenced by the many MS vs. Sony or Mac vs. PC "wars."
I had an ex-girlfriend like that, it was impossible to watch television with her, any depiction of anyone with dark skin as anything but a doctor or lawyer was "so racist." I'd never met anyone with such a knee-jerk reaction to skin color in my life.
But I guess KFC learned their lesson, whites only from now on :boggled:.

Am I to understand that some people consider all stereotypes to be bad? Granted, I think some are actually pretty nasty. You hear that Jews are good with money (oh, my!) and exert a powerful influence in banking (the horror) and Hollywood (shameful). Who would want to be associated with that?

Black people like fried chicken? C'mon, what kind of sick person eats breaded and fried animal carcasses? It must be horrible going through life knowing that some people, most of whom will never say a word to you, assume you might like something as unwholesome as fried chicken? I can't imagine the pain.

I mean, I'm a PC user. Always have been. Hell, I had a 8086 with four floppy drives! But when I see those Mac commercials, oh, does my blood boil. The thought that people I don't know might associate me with a pudgy, balding geek is infuriating! Then again, I like UPS and white boards, so those commercials are okay. But then again, that guy's hair is a little long for my tastes, and I'd hate people to think that I might grow my hair that long just because UPS is my preferred shipper.

If you don't understand the negative stereotype, can't you just say so?

:clap::clap:

How dare that person share his chicken! Doesn't he know that is SO RACIST.

zooterkin
We now have outrage and bafflement in the UK, as there is a new McDonalds ad which says that a pound is also known as 'one bob'. It's not yet clear if this was produced by someone too young to know better, or an American. (One bob was a shilling, in old money, or 5p post-decimalisation.)

My bet is that it's someone too young to know better.

Most Americans wouldn't even be familiar with the term 'bob.'

OTH someone who heard the phrase "worth a few bob" from Brit film/TV (slang survives decimalization) and is unfamilar with the concept of understatement in speech, so probably American

Can I assume that the four white people in the other three ads this chap was in, offerring them chicking, are now going to sue KFC for insuating that they are African american?

groan!

Oh sure, assume they're white! (I'd call you a racist but we all know if you're ripping on white people it's not racist)

Wow somebody else gets it. Well welcome to modern America: Land of the Offended, and nowhere moreso than with minorities and/or whites who imagine themselves the enlightened champions of said downtrodden horribly treated minorities living in oh about the 1850s.

So, I'm watching the NFL Network last night. They had three commentators - two white guys and a black guy. They were sitting at desks kind of next to each other. The black guy was in the middle as if the two white guys were keeping guard over him. Below each desk facing the camera was a video monitor. For the two white guys, it was just showing the NFL Network logo floating around.

You know what was on the black guy's monitor? Yep. The KFC logo.

maybe it's offensive in the US, but why is that KFC Australia's concern?

discuss.....

Well...unless you want the Spacer's Guild to come in and threaten to feed your local emperor his own entrails for mucking about with the bigger picture.
