I just saw a commercial for the MSNBC show American Greed. This Friday they are doing a show about Kevin Trudeau. I'll be experiencing much schadenfreude while watching it.

I wonder how many Kevin Trudeau infomercials NBC and its subsidiaries/affiliates played over the years, taking the money without examining the content or not caring about the content in the first place...

Note that I'm not [just] crying "hypocrisy." It's great if they're getting it right now. Still, television is what made this evil scumbag rich in the first place. One would hope they get into that in their show.

It was gullible people willing to give up their cash which made him rich. Television did certainly help spread awareness of his the stuff he was selling.

(Whether television stations should have refused to run his ads is a bit of a thornier question in that it means having to decide just how far one wants TV stations to go in being gatekeepers of advertisers, and on what criteria they'll do such gatekeeping.)

It's one thing if you're dealing fiction that's fiction from the ground up and marketed as such. It's iffier when you're scripting reality shows. It's completely crazy IMO not to consider broadcasters at least partially responsible for infomercials that are selling death (from untreated/mistreated cancer and diabetes for example).

Posted this a while ago, just to show how sloppy and bottom-feedery Trudeau is:

I once got this long rambling letter (something like 5 pages) that talked about some kind of 'system' or somesuch that was supposed to 'change my life and my finances' etc. It rambled and rambled and went on withou actually giving any idea what the hell the whole thing was about. The thing was so badly edited that the name of the person supposedly wrote the letter changed about 3 times over the letter.

I held onto it for a while and on a whim Goggled some of the terms. Found an anti-scam site that discussed it and lo and behold they had researched it and it led back to Trudeau. What was amusing is that this was a long-term thread as people would mention getting the letter, prompting some discussion and then the thread would go idle. What especially amused was the shills Trudeau had in the thread who would try to talk about how great the thing was and how everyone pointing out the scammy nature of the letter were poopy heads because they wouldn't give the scam letter a chance.

Yeah, nobody there was falling for it.

If a judge orders him to stop doing "X" and he shows up at a TV station wanting to buy airtime to do "X", their legal department shouldn't have any trouble telling him to take a hike.

All the techniques it described are actually real and work, but will fit in fifteen pages of text. To make the book 250 pages, the writers took to using a lot (A LOT) of rambling filler.

Ironically, it may have been the only Trudeau product ever to actually work, had it not been made unreadable.

I bought that memory program when it was still on cassette tape. I had purchased it on a monthly payment thing and went into the hospital shortly after and never did pay the thing off.

He should have taken scam-artist lessons from me! He'd still be free and with an amazing ability for memorizing grocery lists!

And there are many excellent memory techniques around the internet and your local library; I can't remember where off-hand, though.
