Just so you'll know how evil Pat Robertson really is.

Charles Taylor: Pat Robertson was my man in Washington
Foreign Policy

Former Liberian President Charles Taylor, testifying in his own war crimes trial today, said that the American conservative evangelist Pat Robertson was awarded a Liberian gold-mining concession in 1999 and subsequently offered to lobby the Bush administration to support his government.

The revelations came in the midst of a U.N.-backed trial of Taylor at The Hague on 11 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity during Sierra Leone's 1990s civil war. Taylor is accused of directing a Sierra Leone rebel group, the United Revolutionary Front (RUF), in a campaign aimed at securing access to the country's diamond mines. The rebel movement stands accused of committing mass atrocities in the late 1990s in the West African country, including the mutilation of thousands of civilians.

The international prosecutors contend that Taylor offered concessions to Western individuals in exchange for lobbying work aimed at enhancing his image in the United States. The prosecution maintains that Taylor also spent $2.6 million on lobbying firms and public relations outfits in the hopes of influencing the policies of former President Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.

...

I would love to see anyone corner Pat on this on one of the networks he chooses to spew his nonsense. I am not sure that anyone will do so.

It looks to me that Taylor didn't reveal anything about his slimy dealings with Pat Robertson that isn't already well known.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a statement from Marion Robertson tying the BP oil spill to God's continued wrath against NO.

Because that would violate the Right's "DRILL BABY! DRILL!" position. If anything, I'm surprised that Robertson hasn't proclaimed that the people of Louisiana should be thankful to Tha Lawd for all the free oil that will miraculously wash up on shore.

A MIRACLE! A MIRACLE!

He actually is more evil than I thought he was.

(Didn't think that was possible.)

Robertson is not so much "evil" as "totally and utterly deranged". Senile dementia, I'd say.

As I've said before, do you remember Estelle Getty's character in Golden Girls? She'd suffered a stroke from which she'd recovered completely -- except that it had destroyed the portion of her brain that serves as a "verbal censor". She had no awareness that anything she uttered might be inappropriate: if she thought it, she spoke it.

Can you think of a better explanation for Pat Robertson?

For Pat, just add the bit where what he thinks consists of random jumbles of short headlines he has seen in the newspaper plus all the vitriol he can remember from the old days.

Mix all that up and let it come out with no censorship, and that's what we see with Pat.

I don't think that explains it at all. Even if I completely lost the ability to filter my thoughts, you would never catch me saying "Look out Orlando, you tolerate gays so God might send a hurricane to destroy you." The man is filled to the brim with bigoted, sexist thoughts - that's the real problem.

I agree, but the point is he doesn't know when to STOP saying them, when to keep his mouth shut. He just blurts them right on out any old time.

Also, even his bigoted, sexist thoughts are a mass of irrational contradictions.

So the synapses are still firing but they are definitely not all connected.

I think this little morph would apply here...

Has anybody watched the 700 Club recently? I was wondering what sin Nashville committed to get the wrath of God? Bad country music? Come on Pat! Don't keep us in suspense.
