The reference is... again, probably to Irish resilience and... drat - I want to say bullheadedness since I'm mostly Republican... tenacity (leaving out my political views).

This is correct. My family is only partially Irish and the same ****ing **** goes down. Heart attack? They're fine. Stroke? They're fine. Detatched retina? I'll drive myself the 10 miles to Mass Eye & Ear, no problem. My grandfather would regularly get in trouble for joking around with his doctors.

Kennedy's yelling that he's fine and being reported to be joking from his hospital bed is not necessarily a good sign beyond, "he's lucid."

Kerry said the senior senator from Massachusetts is in "good shape" and had a "mild seizure," something he's undergone before and "goes with the territory" of having his form of cancer. He said Kennedy "joked a little bit about what happened" and is grateful for the telephone calls he's received *snip*
