Julia Sweeney's "Letting Go Of God"

I'd prefer it as a book. I find her delivery style immensely annoying.

You can hear a half-hour long excerpt of her show for free. It was broadcast as a segment on This American Life in 2005: http://www.thislife.org/Radio_Episode.aspx?sched=1083

Julia's part starts at 29 minutes in, you can skip ahead. I remember when I listened to that for the first time, I was working out, and when it got to that part, I just stopped at sat at the weight bench the whole time Julia was talking.

The whole episode here is very worthwhile too. Anyone who visits this forum should listen to the whole thing.

It's a very, very good story. I've seen two performances by her online - the 10 minute excerpt was great, but I got to watch pretty much the full thing on another occasion, and disliked it as she seemed overly nervous and spent half of her presentation laughing at herself.

I saw it at TAM3, and I have the audio CD version. It was certainly a highlight of TAM, but a small number of her comments rely on visual gags you miss, when you only hear the audio. Maybe getting the DVD wouldn't be such a bad idea.

I preferred the TAM2 version to the TAM3 version, but I would bet I am in the minority on that. I absolutely love Julia Sweeney, and cherish meeting her at TAM2... (and my autographed Playboy mag with her article in it: "Mercutio, you bastard, quit stalking me! Julia Sweeney")
