I never claimed he was.
Abbott has done a very good job as opposition leader - look at the polls, the removal of one PM, the near ousting of Labor after only one term and another PM on the ropes.

Will he lead the Libs to the next election? I am 50/50 on that.

What he has not been is the worst PM ever. The yabbie holds that one hands down imo.

Rather than second guess me, you really should just pay more attention. :rolleyes:

I've never renovated a house, but I imagine all those bills might be confusing

"I can't categorically rule out that something at my house didn't get paid for by the association or something at my house didn't get paid for by the union or whatever. I just, I don't feel confident saying I can categorically rule it out, but I can't see how it's happened because that really is the only bit of work that I would identify that I hadn't paid for. It seems to me that I've paid, you know, relatively ordinary funds for work to get done and, you know, I just don't see where there could be big money coming from any other source into the renovations."

Has anyone else had that problem? Not entirely sure whether a client may have paid for some of the renovations or not?

Obviously. I've got quotes for the whole job, not so much for tiling, painting, plastering and so on.

I almost feel sorry for Abbott, but on the other hand he blamed the Olympic dam decision on the carbon tax before admitting he hadn't read BHP's statements about it... and it only went downhill from there.

I can see how some would want it to be off topic, but when the main person accusing Gillard as being a liar is exposed as one himself, I reckon it's fair game. But I expect these posts to be reported because they are inconvenient.

The problems with the mine are exactly what BHP said. The mining super profits tax doesn't affect the mine, the Carbon Price will be negligable in a project that size. The project is massive, it is not going to be viable with the current global economy in the state it is in.

And people have a right to do that if they think it's violating TOS. Most people don't though, if they understand that we're here for discussion, and that discussion involved more than one person.

Gillard's answer is actually five pages earlier in reference to a completely different question about Ralph Blewitt, and the first ellipse elides more than half a page of her mostly redacted answer. Stay classy, The Australian.

Honestly, I don't know why S and G felt the need to interview her in the first place.

There is a saying in the US about how a politician can be sure of support from some people unless he is caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy.

Thankfully the labor supporters here are far too enlightened to worry about a live boy.
 
Just a note about your quote, HGE: the first paragraph is from her answer to the question "Did you contract all of those works to the one subcontractor or builder or did you manage them yourself?" and omits the first 472 words (discussing various people she did mostly hire directly). The second paragraph is from a later question, "In terms of the tradesmen who did the work in those areas, who were they?" and omits the final sentence of her answer, "I've had occasion over the course of the weekend to look through my personal records in relation to this matter and I do have a series of receipts from various of them about bits of the work that was done". (She later gives an example of an item without a receipt - a "truly hideous" brick fence that she didn't ask for and never paid for.)

While the section you quoted might give the impression that "the tradies were all arranged by an AWU organiser" the actual transcript (as provided in The Australian) does not.

You honestly don't know, or is that just a figure of speech? Perhaps because they didn't know the answers to the questions they asked and wanted to find out. That's generally the point of an interview.
 
AN article in today's The Australian reported that Prime Minister Julia Gillard had set up a trust fund for her then boyfriend 17 years ago.

Not as obsequious as the one for Glenn Milne, but still an apology.

Gillard is also answering questions on the allegations after the immigration news conference. Nothing really new, but it's interesting/surprising that she's bothering at all, and being rather calm and civil about it.

ETA: She's getting a little annoyed. Nevertheless, for anoyone else who's watching or sees this, compare it to yesterday's Abbott interview - they could hardly be more opposite.
