According to Robert ParKs, who is so trustworthy that I didn't even google it,
"JON STEWART DONS THE MANTLE OF CRONKITE.
Even as the revered anchor of CBS News was laid to rest, Time released the
state-by-state results of a poll of 10,000 Americans across the nation,
asking: who is now the "most trusted" newscaster in America? The
overwhelming choice, with 44%, is Jon Stewart."
Well, he did say that Obama demonstrated "stupidity" last night.

I like Jon and to a lesser extent Stephen, as they can see paste the glitter of the media favorites and find and points out the stupidities all those guys engage in.

I can't take Colbear. Phoney asshats are momentarily risible. Long term ones are boring. But Lewis Black should have his own show. We saw him last Saturday and he was frothing at the mouth and a few other orifices,

I watched Stewart absolutely trash Obama last night for his comments on the Cambridge Police. When you can attack the left as easily as the right, man that's honesty. Stewart isn't anybody's lap dog. Admittedly, you don't get enough news on all topics to make him a viable news source, but the stuff he does talk about is spot on and hilarious. I don't trust Colbert as much because I think the lines between parody and truthiness are blurred, even to him.

I have found Colbert to be consistently more funny than Stewart.

Personally, I just get annoyed at how much of an idiot Stewart is about issues when he isn't being sarcastic.

At least Colbert has the sense to stay in character and not try to pontificate about issues he really knows nothing about and wasn't given a platform to do so.

At least Jon will play back previous episodes that show when he is wrong and go "Whoopsie!" But so far that hasn't made him change how he does things, and he can't do that for everything he gets wrong.

As a comedian, Colbert may be superior. He always stays in character. That takes a lot of discipline. But he is a skit comic. He doesn't do the news as well as Stewart. Actually, I thought Dennis Miller when he did Weekend Update on SNL was the best, but when you do five minutes a week, it's a little easier than doing a full show every night.

Okay, I smelled BS all over this topic. No matter how hip Stewart is with political types (and he's very hip), he's still on Comedy Central. Let's get real here, the idea of a host on CC being more trusted than Brian,
Charlie or Katie seems remote unless they're talking about some net trustworthy versus dishonest thing. But no, it's even more ridiculous than that:

It's an internet poll.

I heard this mentioned on the radio...but they also said it was an internet poll, rendering it meaningless. (Unless you think Ron Paul was a favorite for the presidency)

But Miller is such a jerk now, it has recorded over any memories I had of his SNL stuff.

If a comedian is the most trustworthy news anchor in a country, isn't the countries news media ... a comedy show?

Breakdown of the results:
Jon Stewart - 44%
Brian Williams - 29%
Charles Gibson - 19%
Katie Couric - 7%

I read Bob Park's "What's new" every week and I love his books, but he is an irascible old git with some pretty set opinions of his own. Always check.

It's an internet poll.
See? If you spend any time hanging around Pharyngula you'll know just how much that means.

But I believe it anyway :D

Re who's funnier, Jon Stewart of course; but Colbert's awesome roasting of George Bush has forever earned him a place in comedic history. Only it is so agonizing I will never watch it again.

Stewart isn't a newscaster, he's a satarist. A role that is seperate from, but entirely important to, the quality of our news in general.

The fact that Jon Stewart is even associated with "newscasters" is really disturbing.

Why? What makes the others trustworthy? Because they are highly paid by large corporations to read what they are instructed to read? They're all jokes, but at least the comedians know they are. I can't imagine why people who read things on television imagine they are "journalists", or why journalists have such an inflated notion of their profession.

I don't really understand how people can claim any newscaster is "trustworthy" or "untrustworthy." A large percentage of the news they present during each broadcast was neither researched, gathered nor fact checked by them personally, so if it is accurate it is no thanks to them.

Now, print journalism is where trustworthiness comes in because bylines tell you who is responsible for making sure what is reported is accurate.

.
Yes.
The media on the whole is pathetic.
Not a one of the prime time talking heads is even at the height of Cronkite's kneecaps!
Or Murrow's.
Or Huntley, or Brinkley.
They're just a buncha tele-prompter quoting pretty boys.

.
Yeah, the things they could learn from him!
The Dobbs' birther fixation was dissected quite nicely, using CNN's own broadcasts, which lead to CNN distancing themself from the subject, in this morning's paper.
