Jon Edwards suspends presidential bid!

All politics aside, I don't wish this on anyone. Edwards and his wife clearly came to a decision, and he's going to keep moving on his campaign. I think he'd make a better candidate than Hillary, (then again, who wouldn't?), but as to this being played on the sympathy angle, I don't see that happening, or if it's tried, working.

As to Ann Coulter, I thought she should have been gagged ages ago, but that's just me.
Elizabeth Edwards is hardly a helpless appendage here. She stands to gain a lot if she gets to be first lady, as does her husband. As I understand their relationship, they are a team. I admire her recognition of the benefits of the longer view, and her decision to "play hurt" for the Edwards team, and for that matter, for the Democratic Party team.

That's a lady made of sterner stuff. She's not letting the Big C get her down.

Breaking news. White House Press Secretary Tony Snow reveals that his cancer has returned.
Presidential spokesman Tony Snow's surgery to remove a small growth showed that his cancer has returned and spread to his liver, the White House said Tuesday.
President Bush, making a brief statement to reporters in the Rose Garden, struck an optimistic tone that echoed how aides said Snow was feeling. Bush said he looked forward to the day when Snow returns to the White House.

"His attitide is one that he is not going to let this whip him," Bush said. "My attitude is that we need to pray for him."

Snow, 51, had his entire colon removed in 2005 and underwent six months of chemotherapy after being diagnosed with colon cancer. A small growth was discovered last year in his lower right pelvic area, and after months of monitoring, tests now show that it has grown slightly. It was removed Monday.
Spread to the liver. That is very bad. I haven't heard that it is classified as "incurable", but I know that anytime cancer gets into your liver, your prognosis is poor indeed.

I think all of us from both sides of the aisle should be just as sympathetic for Snow as we have been for Elizabeth Edwards. I wish him good luck and good medicine.

Now, I cannot help it, this is the politics forum. I must ask the question, does this politically "cancel out" the effect of the news about Elizabeth Edwards? Obviously nothing changes in their personal battles, but since everything about politics is appearance, I wonder if some people will say, "Why is Elizabeth Edwards making such a big deal about it? Tony Snow has cancer too."

Yes. People will be that cold and calculating. Regrettably.

I don't think it cancels out, at least not fully, because he's not as close to any of the republican candidates as Edwards wife is to Edwards.

First we have to determine if the cancer news had an effect. Were any polls run today? (regarding edwards that is)

We need to see if he gets a bump from his CBS appearance and the news blurbs about it from this morning. Only if he gets a bump can we really see if the Snow news cancels it out by seeing that bump disappear.

You have an inexplicably high degree of confidence that such a correlation would actually mean anything.
