Some would-be-rich kids just go off on their own to live ordinary lives independent from their narcissist psycho family patriarchs, too.

Ivanka is willingly complicit in her father's cons.

As is Kushner, who is a slumlord who essentially tormented people out of rent-controlled apartments.

It makes more sense if you just consider them to be a crime family with a particularly stupid man as the current patriarch.

We all are products of our parents. My father made his children fear him. Maybe out of his own insecurity. I've grown beyond it as there really is no choice.

As for Donald's kids. I think it's kind of easy being a well adjusted outsider suggesting that his kids should be stronger, but I look at it a little differently. How could they be with that domineering nut job as a father?

Your premise is that Ivanka and her brothers would behave like decent human beings if only they could. The alternative hypothesis is that they are choosing to act in the manner that best serves them, and have been doing so since long before Trump entered politics. At some point we judge people for what they say and do; the question of why is a matter left to them and their shrink. If you yourself were an abusive bully, nobody would let you get away with "my mean father made me do it."

Narcissism and sociopathy might be genetic, and Ivana, Ivanka's mother, doesn't sound like the nicest person in the world, either.

Hard to tease out nature from nurture there.

Regardless of etiology or causation, Ivanka sucks, though. She is not some poor trapped little thing. She's there because it works for her.

Why would anyone think this? She is daddy's little girl and has devoted her life to earning his approval. She and hubby moved to Washington to join Daddy's official staff. If she was a functioning adult woman, she at least could have said "We're staying in NY to run our stuff." All anyone needs to know about Ivanka is that her last name is Trump.

In reading about McCain I was reminded of Trump's remark:

"He's not a war hero. He's a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren't captured."

Captured? I think shot down better describes it. McCain was flying a combat mission off a Navy carrier over North Vietnam. The North Vietnamese air defense system (Soviet-supplied) locked in on his A4 jet airplane. A surface-to-air missile was fired and hit the jet. One of the other pilots saw the plane get hit and McCain bail out as his jet began to break apart. McCain ejected, breaking both arms and a leg in the process. Then he was captured, pulled from a lake and saved from drowning by Vietnamese who saw him coming down. They beat him and turned him over to Vietnamese military who brought him to a prison camp. Despite his injuries he got little medical treatment. As one of his fellow aviators said many years later, "I'm surprised any of us got out alive."

Where was Trump while all this was going on? Back in New York. He couldn't serve in the military. His foot hurt.

I agree with pretty much with all of this. But whether it comes from her parent's dna or from their actions, the source is clear.

When Trump was first elected, I rolled with the "possibly benevolent Ivanka" hypothesis for a while. It didn't take long to see that, no, she's a self-absorbed scam artist just like her dad.

The "Trump crime family" hypothesis fit all of the fact much better - basically perfectly.

He might have been trying to clear his ears. He'd just come from Aretha Franklin's funeral and he probably had that stuffy feeling you get in your ears from being around loud noise for a long time. That was quite the funeral/concert/tent revival.

Or maybe he's still trying to give up cigars.
