Moderated JFK conspiracy theories: it never ends III

Well, mrs gnomon knows I post under this name and found the thread so not only can I not perform a true blind test but I've been told "if you get busted for shooting off guns in city limits I'm not bailing you out!"

So I guess I'll need to find another way to satisfy my personal curiosity on this matter.

Break open a few cartridges and pile up the powder, then ignite it.

Probably just as well. Those nervous Nellie's, the police, seeing you in a hidden place with a gun port might not react well should you suddenly,,, blink.

People used to assume a heavier object would fall faster than a lighter one. Thats what your intuition would have told you. But you would have been wrong of course.

I've never seen a recording of a test stating otherwise, so I still make the assumption that two rocks with the same aerodynamic properties released from the same height at the same time will hit the ground at a mesearurably different time from each other if rock A is one pound and rock B is one ton. This is a reasonable assumption to make seeing how weight is a meseaurment of how much force gravity is acting on an object.

There is a reason that experiment with the feather and the hammer was performed on the moon...

The weight is force due to gravity, and is proportional to the mass of the object. However, since it takes proportionally more force to move more massive objects the same acceleration, the mass essentially cancels out, so the mass of the object makes no difference.

Because of the lack of air resistance on the moon?

That explanation makes sense, thanks for providing it.

Sweden is a civilised country with severe restrictions regarding guns and ammunition. To perform a test like this would be very expensive, time consuming and controversial, even if permission was granted. I suggest you do it on a coffee break in the US, shouldn't cost you more than the ammo and a round of beer ;)
My home in WA USA is not subject to the same restrictions. I can run a test. What parameters do you suggest?

I work at a rifle range and load my own ammunition; I have access to a range of different powders including smokeless, black powder and Pyrodex. In my experience only black powder and its smokeless substitutes have a lingering odor. Even certain types of Aguilla rim fire ammunition which smells like super glue (in my opinion) and makes my eyes tear up does not linger. I don't think sticking the muzzle out of the window is going to enhance any lingering odor in the room occupied by the shooter or others who arrive later.

I own a 6.5mm Carcano much like the one Oswald allegedly used to kill JFK. I can load it with a common single or double base powder made or marketed by Winchester; didn't they find Winchester ammo in the TSBD?

Loose powder burnt in a room is going to hang around; much different than shooting it out of a gun barrel where it is initially propelled at a rate of thousands of feet per second.

1 - smokeless powder burns differently under pressure and may smell different
2 - shooting a rifle from within a structure to outside the structure ejects most if not all combustion gasses out of the structure. The gasses released from the breech while cycling the action, ejected brass and the rifle itself present the greatest source for odor.

Absolutely. This is, for the advocates of the "lingering odour", the best case scenario. And I still doubt it'd be noticeable.

The conspiracy people have found themselves a new Silenced Witness, the latest heir to Roger Craig.

I present to you . . . (drumroll) Ernst Titovets!

Friend of LHO in Russia. We know they must know because he was banned from speaking at a conspiracy forum:

http://whowhatwhy.com/2013/08/27/is...d-his-revelations-itself-a-further-deception/

:blackcat:

From the article:
In one of a continuing series of obstructions affecting the 50th anniversary of the John F. Kennedy assassination, the US government is preventing a visit to a research conference by a man who apparently got very close to Lee Harvey Oswald during Oswald’s USSR days.

Right- bureaucratic red tape = "obstruction," because the U.S. government was just so afraid of what he might say.
Funny thing is...if you scroll down to the comments section, you'll find one by Titovets himself (from "a year ago"- apparently around Aug 2013, when the article was written) saying he got his visa. Everything's a conspiracy until it isn't, then it might still be.
