"Jesus Camp" Now Available on Google Video

Thanks for the "heads up" on the documentary.

I'd like to watch it, but I suspect it will be hard-core "child abuse". That kind of stuff truly breaks my heart.

Charlie (thinking of the children) Monoxide

Sweet, thanks Jas.
I've been meaning to see this for weeks.
It will be excellent movie night material for my atheist, agnostics, & freethinkers club.

I've seen this movie. I think it was on YouTube (broken up into six parts). Anyway, yes, it's ugly scary. It will make your blood boil in some parts. These poors kids look like they're being prepped to became the Holy Warriors of tomorrow! Ugh!

The Camp counselers are psychologically abusive, but they believe they are doing the most wonderful thing.

If I recall correctly, Jesus Camp has been closed down due to the bad reactions this movie has brought them. It appears that the people who run the camp thought the movie would help their cause, but it did the opposite.

Wow. She actually says that she wants to trail christian children to be willing to give their lives for the gospel in the same way that kids in the middle east are willing to give their lives for Islam. Her reason for wanting this?

"Because we [meaning her version of christians] have the truth".

Why is she, and people like her, NOT on the terrorist watch list?

- This woman must have weighed two and a half bills so I found it funny when she said people are allowing themselves to get fat and lazy

- I wonder how I would react if a cute 10 year-old kid gave me a bible tract while I'm bowling with my buddies. Would I say "shove it" or "ummm...thanks?"

- that poor blond boy who felt torn because he doubted God's existence...shame he didn't have anyone rational to discuss religion with. It seems all he was taught was to feel guilt.

- it was funny (in a sad way) when Levi (the boy with the long hair) was saying how at 5 years old he wanted more out of life. The only thing I wanted more out of life at age 5 was candy. Preferably Skittles.

-Too bad this movie came out before Ted Haggart's scandal broke. "Ted was kicked out of his church for blowing a guy and smoking meth" would have made a nice epilogue.

You don't have your "you need to learn the difference between right and wrong yourself and not just listen to what other people tell you" speech ready?

I recently saw this movie and I have to say that it is more of a horror movie than a documentary.... damn they were scary....

I certainly hope that these people are in the minority in the U.S... anyone know how big this group is in the 'states' ?

More than 20 million in the US, if you look up Pentecostalism in Wikipedia.

Yeah, that creeped me the hell out when I saw it.

That and everything else here. I really feel sorry for these kids. The part that particularly struck me was the anti-evolution young Earth creationism home schooling part. Just teach the kid some crap you pulled out of your ass Bible, sure. That'll teach them how to do amazing things in the world.

*Miss Anthrope sighs happily as she watches her homeschooled daughter scribbling notes while studying The God Delusion*;)

It's creepy indeed. What's happening to the minds of the kids at that camp, and in hyper-religious environments as such is horrifying.:jaw-dropp

Welcome to the 2%* of homeschooling parents that don't religiously indoctrinate their kids. It's people like you that give me some hope for our populace.

My wife picked up some homeschooling magazine a few months ago out of curiosity, and the whole thing was just religious drivel, front to back. I can't even remember the title as she promptly tossed it in the trash.

Everything in that video creeped me out. The speaking in tongues, the constant "war" comparisons, the Bush cutout, the kids used as anti-abortion pawns, everything.

It's not fair to do that to innocent children. They don't have the mental resources to question that kind of indoctrination. You want to promote your beliefs, do it with an adult in an environment that facilitates open dialogue, not some creepy brain washing fest.

*2% is a wild guess based on nothing. Actual number may be considerably smaller.

Not to derail (and I won't post more on this digression here): It's a bit higher here, but then the extremely non-religious homeschoolers buy into a lot of woo, too. What I do is expose her to everyone, encourage her to hear everyone out respectfully, and then ask "Why?" a whole lot. She's actually considered a very good influence and a preferred playmate among many fundy parents in our support and social communities...go figure. But then again, many of those fundy parents came and saw me do a gay cabaret version of Trey Parker's Cannibal the Musical and laughed a lot. Seattle is obviously not a good example for typical demographics in this area.:p

Hmmmmm. Cannibal is one of my son's favorite movies. Now I've got the theme song stuck in my head yet again.

"The sky is blue, and all the leaves are green..."
