Merged Jesse Ventura to host new conspiracy theory TV show

It's sad to see someone who was once a pretty fun character make a total fool of himself this way.

The conspiracy nuts are orgasmic about this show, look at the ATS thread on it:

Jesse already being hailed as a true patriot and a role model for the twoof!

Frankly, I'm sort of glad he got the show. I know on the one hand that shows like this will lure the stupid and gullible into believing in CT, but I think it will drive away more people than it converts. After all, it doesn't take anymore than an ounce of skepticism to see through this stuff for the fear mongering and paranoia that it is.

I find it hilarious they tried to act all melodramatic by landing a helicopter in front of HAARP and then blurring out the face of the slightly overweight guy in jeans telling them that they can't go inside. Yeah, because those are the type of people the gubment uses to hide secret weapons. How interesting that he did so much research on this conspiracy theory but forgot to show up during a open house tour ;) But I guess getting in and going on the tour isn't as sexy for conspiracy theorists as acting like its some top-secret gubment doomsday weapon.

Also, does anyone else note that Jesse teams of crack researchers present "findings" that just so HAPPEN to be the same conclusions one finds when you google HAARP? And when they start talking to the people who actually do research there, its completely benign.

The Governor and his "researchers" think its so strange that not many people will talk about HAARP - perhaps because they are so tried of the conspiracy loons? MAYBE? And when they finally find the village gossiper, she suspects a conspiracy..of course...

Why didn't they just go to HAARP on it's yearly open house? :D

The part I loved was where they interview the guy that used to plow snow at the site when it was being built and what he heard “people” talking about in a bar and coffee shop. I mean really, what other evidence does one need? Of course the best is when the one Doctor puts the two hydrophone transducers on him and not only is he amazed that he hears the music through his skull (thick as it may be) but at the end extols how he was influenced by “radio waves”. I might have thought it was sad if I just wasn’t laughing so much through the whole thing.

That video of him in the studio on Opie & Anthony, just rocking forward and backwards while they are asking tough questions. That is just classic. He looks like he's about to go nuts at any moment. I think I'd be afraid to push him at that point.. and may feel safer (for him, and myself) to just let him think what he wants and walk away. He strikes me as the type who could suddenly decide to put you in a choke hold or something. :)

Forensic Files is a great show.

I have few other positive comments about TruTV programming, except to say that it's on average not as bad as the Repo show or the ironically named Rehab: Party at the Hard Rock. It has been slowly sliding downhill since CourtTV became TruTV, but before that there were still "questionable" shows like Psychic Detectives, which had a few episodes featuring America's Sweetheart, Sylvia Brown.

So Jesse Ventura first makes the claim that the Mayans predicted the end of the world... already completely false. I guess all of the Mayan scholars and mayan people are lying.

Then he says they have greater knowledge of the atmosphere than we do today.
Then he goes on about a hole in our magnetic field.
So the mayans predicted that a series of solar flares will come in 2012, with the addition of a newly formed hole in the magnetic field, which would then lead to power outages everywhere.

Come on this is ridiculous. Even if the Mayans' long count calender really did coincide with an apocalypse prediction, how would they know that electricity were to be invented? And this knowledge of electricity being used would be required in order for predicted solar flares to be apocalyptic.

I also really hate how Jesse goes on to say "It's been documented".
He's been hanging out with Alex Jones too much.

I have to chime in here and say that I do like Jesse. I've been a fan of his since he became governor of Minnesota. Never really cared about his wrestling career but I enjoy listening to him talk politics.

However...

After getting involved with Alex Jones, his political rhetoric has become very clouded, his judgment concerning government conspiracies seem rather hyped, and I think a lot of it is for fame knowing that the guy really has a lot of free time on his hands these days.

Jesse should know better because he was governor. He should know the level of incompetence that comes with those who work within the government. He was a Navy Seal for crying out loud and he also served in Vietnam. Creating a show about Conspiracy Theories and having Alex Jones as a consultant is making him look bad!

I'm sorry Jesse, I love ya but I'm not with you on this one! I wish the best of luck to you and even though you are a stubborn old goat it's hopeful that you will come to your senses.

Well, I could say some stuff about Opie and Anthony especially Jimmy Norton but we'll just leave it at that!

One of my skeptical friends watched a bit of the show, and said they thought that although most of what Jesse was on about was bunk, he thought it might be possible that HAARP might be some sort of superweapon.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't HAARP just do readings? Or does it actually transmit some sort of waves/energy?

HAARP does transmit energy.

However, its total radiant output is comparable to that of a large AM radio station. In its final configuration, the total power is about 4 MW. People seem to think it has something to do with weather control... so for comparison, this power rating is about 0.0000004% of that exerted by an average hurricane.

ooh, scary.

:D Thanks very much. :)

So, a little extra reading and I discovered that HAARP will actually provide tours and has open house events.

So Jesse didn't need to threaten the poor pudgy middle aged guy in jeans and button down (is that how the security at top secret facilities dress?).

From the cutting room floor:

"I'm sorry Mr. Ventura, but we're closed on Sundays. If you come back tomorrow during regular operating hours, I'm sure someone would be willing to give you a tour. Here, have a coupon for 1/2-off any t-shirt from our gift shop."

Well, I finally watched this yesterday on a re-run. I wanted to watch it for purely entertainment reasons. This show is a flop. As a former entertainer, I thought he could at least make me laugh. I didn't make it past the first 20 minutes before flipping the channel. The only giggle I got was when he showed his crack staff of researchers. I mean they were saying all this baloney with a straight face. Anyways, maybe the 911 show will be better, otherwise this show is getting canned fast.

How’d you like the part where the one crack staff researcher questions why the government would want to kill innocent people by creating the tsunami? Then basically gets “body” slammed by Jesse for not simply accepting that they could have been killed by “mistake”. Nice way to set the tone for your crack staff of researchers and the series in general. Only freak’n idiots or conspirators doubt the conspiracy.

Great point, The Man. I think it clearly stems from the ego and assumption of complete infallibility in their own thinking and beliefs. If they have come to the conclusion, in their own minds, that "X" happened, then that is that. End of story. They can't be wrong. It's not even possible. So if there is doubt, it must be someone who is an idiot, or in on the conspiracy. If there is evidence to the contrary, it must have be faked.

But if there is shaky evidence that supports their belief, they accept it at face value, even long after it gets utterly debunked.

Just look at truthers. They exhibit this behavior every single day.

Only shows that they do not understand how Tsunami happen in the first place (Most Tsunamis happen because there was an EArthquake; others are created due to huge land slides into the ocean, volcanic eruptions, underwater explosions, mass movements and other underwater events).

Radio waves "targeted" to the sky isn't going to create tsunamis.

as his program closes with him growling about how the Navy should let him into any Naval facility because he's a former SEAL.

Right. Old Jim Janos must have been asleep when they explained how clearance+need to know = access.

And I don't care what kind of street cred he thinks he has as a former member of Underwater Demolition Team 12. (Note - Not a true SEAL. It's at best disengenous, and at worst misleading and resume-padding.)

He hasn't been part of the Naval Special Warfare community in a long time. Ere go, his clearance has been revoked for loss of jurisdiction like it is for anyone that leaves the service with one.

When it comes to access to any Navy facility he wants- sorry, "baldy." You are no different than any other schmuckatelly that wants to wander around ONI and look at "cool stuff."

Oh, and by the way? Eat ****, Ventura - you disengenous money-grubbing jackhole. Methinks he took one too many piledrivers.

FACT is the facility is owned by the Air Force. Why would the AIR FORCE allow him in just because at one time he was a NAVY seal?

The best is the summation at the end when he makes this MISTAKE in his wrap up.
