I met his parents about 30 years ago--his dad was the guy who beat Nixon for the California Governorship in 1962, leading to the quote that the press wouldn't "have Dick Nixon to kick around anymore."
They were nice people, but very old. I am sure that Joe Biden doesn't want him competing for the "get off my lawn" vote.
Coincidentally I also met him (Pat Brown the father) a few times when I was young around 1960. To go along with your nice people appraisal he got on the floor and played marbles with me. I was 5 or 6.
Supposedly I have also met Jerry Brown but I do not recall him.
