JEROME - Black holes do not exist

So, to summarize, Jerome:

You contend that black holes are a "made-up thought with no evidence" and "make-believe things", but you are still of the opinion that they could be real? Is that correct?

What would convince you that black holes are real? What kind of evidence?

So what are you guys waiting for, Jerome to do the side-step again?

Paul

I would build spaceship, hiberante JdG and send him toward nearest known black hole, there I would wake him and put him as near as possible so he would see then if he would still not convinced then it would be trip to singularity.Unfortunately it would be only one way...

Perhaps not, with Jerome’s expressed lack of understanding of physics or specifically what the world would be like with his indeterminate (as he apparently prefers) understanding of physics. As opposed to our current understanding of physics resulting in our modern technology. That infinite opposing force might cause a singularity to explode. Jerome now provides us with his own big bang theory, the unmitigated force of ignorance. But lacking the eloquence to express anything but that ignorance, including his expressed ignorance of his own beliefs, he becomes just another black hole.

We have been over this already.

Man makes up lots of things, sometimes these ideas are true.

You do understand a hypothesis is "made-up"?

Fascinating.

So a "made-up" thing can also be existent ?

A hypothesis is not an actual thing nor is it the thing it seeks to explain. You do know this, right ? Things that are "made-up", that is, conjured by man's imagination, do not exist. If black holes are "made-up", then they are non-existent.

But if you now claim that black holes exist, I believe this thread is over.

Scientific hypothesis is a hypothesis (a testable conjecture) used as a tentative explanation of an observation, but which has not yet been fully tested by the prediction validation process for a scientific theory. A hypothesis is used in the scientific method to predict the results of further experiments, which will be used either to confirm or disprove it. A successfully-tested hypothesis achieves the status of a scientific theory.

It is not just made up.

Or he could cause wormhole and then all fun would begin.Since then we could obtain infinite source of exotic matter...:D

Yep

Ideas are things. You should brush-up on the dictionary, it may help with your understanding of the ideas conveyed through the words used on the forum. Then we can move on to sentence structure.

But if you now claim that black holes exist, I believe this thread is over.

I did not claim such.

Arguing with Jerome is like arguing with a Flat-Earther. There is no "evidence" that can prove the "supposition" that the Earth is round.

The fact remains that we have a decent working model of the universe and black-holes are a necessary part of that model to explain our current observations of the universe. Until someone comes up with an alternate model or contrary observations we'll keep the existing black-hole model.

I certainly did not claim that Black Holes do not exist.

I did claim that they are at this point made-up.

The trouble is, if you take into account that words have meanings, your second sentence contradicts your first. If you want to ignore definitions that people use, then never mind.

:gnome:
Then you are definitely wrong. There is no "made-up" about the existence of black holes. Nobody just said "I am going to make up some imaginary things. They will be massive and not allow light to escape them. What will I call these imaginary things? Black holes sounds nice."

Black holes are a solution of General Relativity. They were theoretical until the evidence for them was observed. There are serveral stellar sized candidated for black holes. These candidates are all members of X-ray binary systems in which the denser object draws matter from its partner via an accretion disk.
There is a certain object in the center of this galaxy that you may have heard of. The Chandra observatory has recorded 1300 similar objects.

You are not also playing the game where the reader gets to define the words the writer uses, are you?

The forum will become very messy if that is a moderator established game.
