While standing in line to get my vaccination at the local Family Dollar (I vaccinate with crayons, coloring books, construction paper, and a bag of green army men... guaranteed to cure what ails ya!) I spotted a stack of books on the endcap of the cash register.

There were easily 40 copies sitting here, more than even Elrond's cowboy book, and there was a stack of another couple of dozen back in the book aisle. If the Che picture book wasn't such a badly done ripoff of a Taschen book, I would've picked up a copy of that.

Before you applaud that Jenny's book is being given the toilet paper treatment it deserves, I find this very unsettling. I live in a very blue collar neighborhood, where the Wally World is generally considered "high brow shopping". The idea that her book can reach a wider, less educated audience, is not something that makes me sleep well at night.

If it helps, usually books or films that get sent there are from liquidations.

I mean half of my awesomely bad movie collection was from dollar stores, i would hope that if someone is intelligent enough for me to want on our side, they would understand that if a movie or book is in a dollar store, it is there for a reason.

We need to get together and compare DVDs. I've snatched about 30 or so over the years of just cartoons, many of which the term "racial insensitivity" doesn't even begin to cover it. Fleischer Studio's Raggedy Ann and Andy using the "N" word, for example.

Now I know McCarthy pretty much has gotten all the pennies she's going to get on that particular book. My concern is when the store does sell a copy to someone who may or may not have the critical thinking skills to understand what bunk the book is.

Okay, you damn near killed me. I REALLY hope coopersville is reading this.

I have pretty much every cartoon collection i can find. And i tend to toss up MST3k esque youtube videos. Now one of which was a john henry animation that was just....racist. Now in pointing this out i have been accused of myself being racist. ( the logic being john henry is such a large scale black figure finding any version of his story poor, is tantamount to racisim. )

But yeah, dollar stores are where you will find that type of crap. But i can see your concern that someone who does not understand your not going to find " the cosmos" in the movie bin of a dollar store, may take this as a real piece of scientific literature.

It does suck, but the way i look at it is

If your getting your medical advice from discount books found at a dollar store, are you really the type of person skepticism needs?

Why? Is he a voyeur?

Ah, yes. "John Henry and the Inky-Poo" from George Pal's Puppetoons series. If you thought that was even the slightest bit racist, wait till you see his "Jasper" series.

We won't get into the Tex Avery ones I own. The ones they don't show on Cartoon Network.

Though I do not enjoy it, I'll concede to that point.
