Jailhouse Justice

Does it matter? They are sent to prison to be confined and rehabilitated not be to be humiliated, raped and tortured.
Yeah, it matters. I'll grant you, its all pretty much the same to the inmates, but if it were the guards who did it, there is a whole other level of problems at play.

The guards are entrusted to, as you say, confine and rehabilitate. If they are betraying the trust given to them and acting no better than the people they are guarding, then they would be worse than a thug. They would be a thug with state sanctioned power. As such, we (the state) are morally responsible for their actions. Guard instigated humiliation, rape, and torture is our fault because we put such a person in a position of power over those that cannot defend themsleves, scum though they may be.

You actually think prisons still try to rehabilitate inmates? Anyway child molesters cannot be rehabilitated, they are almost always repeat offenders.

I am sure they still try, doesn't mean they succeed.

There is a legal way to dispose of them then.

"Friends" that served time. Yeah, right, Charlie. C'mon, 'fess up - your secret is safe here.
Yes. your secret is safe here on this public, Google indexed, internet forum, which is easily viewable by anyone with a browser.

So, do tell. :D

The original crime happened half a morning’s drive from me. This guy did it. Confession, real evidence, all that.

I have no sympathy for him
Good to know.
but that does not mean that a system which allows this should be tolerated.
i very much agree. Even assuming that this was done by another inmate or group of inmates, I very much doubt this guy just sat there and waited for them to finish. If inmates can hold another inmate that long without detection, something's wrong.

Of course, I have no idea what level of security this particular prison was providing, but I doubt a child molester gets the country club prison.

The rule of law applies and therefore I am very upset about this...officially.

I will put it on the long list of other things about which I am very upset. If it ends up near the bottom, such is life.

Sorry, TFB I say.

Child molester/killers who are convicted with DNA evidence should have their foreheads tattooed as part of their sentence, IMO.

Child was tortured, raped and murdered.
Man gets sentenced to prison and gets a tattoo on his forehead.
Seems like more than a fair deal to me.

More than a fair deal, he got lucky. A lot of them get killed in jail. People who kill childmollesters usually get a high status in jail.

Boy, I can't argue with that.

Well, as in this situation, I imagine it would matter a great deal whether or not it was the other inmates or the guards who applied the tattoo. A lot of the outrage directed at Guantanamo is due to abuse by guards.

If there was inmate on inmate violence, I missed that part.
Alleged abuse, and rare cases where the allegations have proven to be grounded, and guards dismissed or punished by the chain of command.

Mishandling a Koran is not abuse. It is not even wrong. It is painted as such by some persons as a means of attempting to make a political point.

You need to read a bit more, I think, about prisoners who routinely spit at or threw feces or uring at guards on a routine basis, most of whom didn't beat the crap out of them for that as should have been permitted. But the rules didn't allow for that.

Gitmo: a weird political decision that has lead to a hell of a lot of woo and myth on its own.

Yet for an avatar you've chosen a torturer and murderer. Why?

The guards are not going to investigate this until the second Tuesday next week, and when they do, they'll be satisfied with the explanation that he did it to himself.

I got paychecks against a tuna sandwich on that, too.

I knew I should have made a bet with you but all I had was a pizza.

Prison officials said an inmate has been identified as a suspect.

Two prison guards suspected of supplying the picture were fired for making unauthorized copies of an evidence photo, said Rich Larsen, a spokesman for the Wabash Valley state prison in Carlisle, about 70 miles north of Evansville.

Definitely. And I don't condone it but after it happening I'm not going to waste any outrage on him. (and Yes, the people who did it should be punished)

If there is no outrage why should they be punished?

You don't pay your taxes, you get "IRS' Revenge" on your forhead.

I get a parking ticket, I get "Meter Maid's Revenge" tattooed on mine.

This could be fun, a whole new industry popping up to improve the criminal justice Industry. . . opps! I mean "system".

Yeah, and politicians always tell the truth.

Interesting non-sequitor. Where did "mishandling a Koran" come from in this discussion?
Gitmo: a weird political decision that has lead to a hell of a lot of woo and myth on its own.
mm-hmm.

The process. Having it removed would probably be even more so. Imagine the outrage if this had happened at Guantanamo.

Imagine the outrage if this had happened to Osama Bin Laden?

Seriously, I don't liek it, but you're right.

Generaly I prefer to live in a country where justice in the hands of juries and judges rather than a bunch of convicted criminals.

I'm halfway about this. It's bad and shouldn't go on, but is far from the biggest concern about the prison systems.

Here's the crocodile tears part: yeah, rule of law should apply and justice should be in the hands of 12 citizens, blah blah blah...

Here's how I really think: I wish they'd also tatooed a bootprint on his penis.

What I find interesting is that whoever did it took the time to put an apostrophe in "Katie's."
