Jailhouse Justice

I'm generally a bleeding heart liberal but when something like this happens to a child killer I can't be bothered to give a crap for the SOB.

Well, accoding to the article, there is both DNA evidence linking him to the scene and he confessed, so it's a fair shot they got the right guy.

I'm going to be a contrarian here.

This guy was sentenced to prison, and rightly so.

I'll bet the rest of my paychecks for the rest of my life against a tuna sandwich that he wasn't sentenced to be tortured. And that's what this amounts to.

Definitely. And I don't condone it but after it happening I'm not going to waste any outrage on him. (and Yes, the people who did it should be punished)

The process. Having it removed would probably be even more so.
Boy, I can't argue with that.
Imagine the outrage if this had happened at Guantanamo.
Well, as in this situation, I imagine it would matter a great deal whether or not it was the other inmates or the guards who applied the tattoo. A lot of the outrage directed at Guantanamo is due to abuse by guards.

If there was inmate on inmate violence, I missed that part.

Fair enough, though I have no doubt that if there were inmate on inmate violence at Guantanamo, that would get blamed on us, too.

(Let me make it clear here, I'm not trying to defend this guy; he sounds like garbage wrapped in skin, and I wouldn't have wasted a second of my life mourning for him had he been given the death penalty.)

You want to make any bets on whether that will happen? I have lots of paychecks left, if you have the tuna.

if this was the work of inmates and there was evidence I would think there would be repercussions.

If guards did it then I would not take you up on your bet.

Does it matter? They are sent to prison to be confined and rehabilitated not be to be humiliated, raped and tortured.

The guards are not going to investigate this until the second Tuesday next week, and when they do, they'll be satisfied with the explanation that he did it to himself.

I got paychecks against a tuna sandwich on that, too.

Why? I don't think that there are likely to be any witnesses about anything. I remember a guy I work with talking about being on a grand jury dealing with a stabing in a prison, and victem wouldn't say anything.

Even if the guards try to investigate this it is unlikely they will be able to get a witness.

Child was tortured, raped and murdered.
Man gets sentenced to prison and gets a tattoo on his forehead.
Seems like more than a fair deal to me.

I've had friends that served time in various "big houses". One was involved in a prison riot. Their first priority when they overtook the prison was to get to the wing that segregated the sex offenders. A lot of these rioters had children on the outside.

I know it's not right, but such is life.

The original crime happened half a morning’s drive from me. This guy did it. Confession, real evidence, all that.

I have no sympathy for him, but that does not mean that a system which allows this should be tolerated. On the news this morning, the warden indicated (without stating directly) two things:

1. Stockelman himself isn’t talking, so they’re not sure if he did it or someone else did.

2. They will investigate to find and discipline whoever (guard or other inmate) who did.

Assuming he’s not just doing PR, then I have no problem with this response.

I should also add that I am not suggesting that prison’s need to have perfect protection of inmates; that is an impossible standard. But if there were something foreseeable which was not addressed, or if this happened as the result of lax enforcement of standards, then not only should the other inmate (if that’s who did it) be disciplined, but the system should also be fixed.

You actually think prisons still try to rehabilitate inmates? Anyway child molesters cannot be rehabilitated, they are almost always repeat offenders.
