Because, Trump not withstanding, he's the craziest and scariest of all the Republican candidates. Yeah, Huckabee is also a religious extremist but doesn't seem quite as far out and anyway his campaign's going nowhere. Cruz is in third or fourth place, I think.

His first reaction to the Colrado PP shooting was that the shooter was a transgendered liberal extremist. He was right on the last bit.

Now he's spouting that a majority of violent criminals are Democrats, and that there's no war on women or contraception because when he was in college you could put fifty cents in a machine and get a condom.

He is, according to his professors, an extremely bright guy. Smart, religious, and crazy is an extremely frightening combination.
 
According to Ted Cruz, Republicans lost the last two elections because they didn't nominate a true conservative. Everything Ted Cruz has done since he became a Senator from shutting down the government in what he surely knew to be an impossible to win fight over Obamacare to all the stupid crap he is saying now, everything he has done has been an effort to show that he is the one True Conservative. The craziest, most worthless piece of crap in the GOP (really saying something).

I was considering starting a Cruz thread because I was curious about this. Supposedly he is very smart but much of what he says would indicate otherwise.

To what extent does Cruz believe what he says? Is he a fool who believes this stuff or is he smart and this is just a character he is playing as part of his strategy to win?

For instance I doubt he believes the stuff he has said on net neutrality. I think he only took that position because of financial backi.ng from those who stood to benefit

I guess it is typical strategy for some ideologies to use the early, knowedge-lite aftermath of any horrible event to help your own platform by saying things that would be great for you if they are true, and forgettable if they are not.

It doesn't sound forgettable, but I think if he explains a couple times that since the id said 'female', that implied he must have once been the other sex, and hence his term 'transgendered', he will be halfway there to helping this statement fade away.

The liberal part is to me the more problematic. I'm sure he'll find some way to weasel that away as well.

Here is how he will weasel away: His supporters do not care if he lies to them.
 
It is so strange because I have often heard that Ted Cruz is such incredibly smart and adept fellow, but so many times he acts so incredibly dumb. I just do not understand why some people find him to be so very appealing.

I don't find him appealing, but I remember that his resume indicates some level of intelligence. Acknowledging that a crazy person may also be intelligent is difficult, but may be apt in this case. I've never met or worked with him, so I don't know if he actually is smart. Hell, Carson was a brain surgeon and yet I don't get the impression that he is much of a thinker.

One thing I saw was that Cruz is younger than the members of the Beastie Boys yet he talks like he is stuck in an episode of Leave it to Beaver. Jimminy Cricket!

I notice you're speaking of Carson in the past tense. He is not dead, but his candidacy may well be.

I mention his surgical career in the past tense since he is no longer practicing. As I was once an engineer, Ben Carson was once a brain surgeon. I am now an attorney and part time porn actor, while Ben is now an author and politician.

Hey, if he gets to be called a politician even though he has never been elected I can claim a porn career even though I don't have any credits, yet.

The "transgendered" idea came from a mistaken report that he was registered to vote as a female. Ted just took that and ran with it. And of course "liberals" are responsible for everything bad in the world.

Yes, RWW is a left-liberal organization. But pretty much all of their reports include audio or video of conservatives like Cruz saying crazy stuff. Idiots keep putting out DMCA takedowns on them for that.

Although I'm retired, I still consider myself an engineer. Even keep up my PE license. It's just that I design siege engines instead of airplane systems.

LOTS of very smart, highly educated people believe ridiculously crazy stuff. I met quite a few of them among my fellow engineers during my career. Me, I just think pumpkins can and should fly.

Cruz's reaction to the California shooting this morning is to criticize Obama for saying the Islamic State is "not Islamic". I halfway agree with him on that. But the right is very quick to play the "No True Christian" card, as you'll see if you read the thread about the shooting.

Right. I'm assuming that Mr. Carson no longer has any way to ply his former trade.

Whereas you could take on an interesting engineering project if one came along. Also, despite your fascinating pumpkin slinging (which I am a big fan of), you haven't taken up another career. Thus leaving you stuck with the label of your last career, even if it is a nobel one. And since that former label has some relevance to your post career activities, you are really just engineering in a different way.

I have a hard time coming up with an analog for such activity for the retired brain surgeon. But I don't think it would be political author, or whatever Carson is doing now.
 
At first glance, I thought this thread read It's Time for Ted Cruz's Head, and found it a little extreme.

Just a little.
