It's time for a Marco Rubio thread?

So, with his strong showing in Iowa I think we should start discussing the Man in the Boots.

I dismissed him early on as not confident enough, but it seems that he is getting there. Of the GOP he seems the most rational, but I'm sure I'm missing something.

Why is Rubio awesome? Why is Rubio awful? How many posts will it take for someone to refer to him as Mark Blonde?

I think of him as a more likable Cruz, which says a lot to me about what the GOP primary voters want.

I don't know. When I was in Iowa over the holidays, Rubio and Clinton commercials were the only things I saw. Rubio put a lot of effort into Iowa.

Then again, looking at the Republican candidates, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't actually get the nomination. Who else is there? If Trump bombs out, there are no other options, really. Cruz isn't going to sell well outside of Iowa (see Mike Huckabee). Ben Carson hit the state hard and didn't show.

If it's not Trump, Rubio is the only option left.

And the winner of the Damning With Faint Praise gold medal...

Anyway, Mr. Rubio, among his stellar qualifications, is a complete climate change denier. I will relish his eventual defeat.

I heard his speech last night. I guess I don't get it. It was a lot of "We're going to go back to what made America great!!!" And I mean a lot. Like, over and over.

Unfortunately, I wasn't quite clear exactly what he actually thinks it is that made America great. I guess that is the beauty of it - leave it to his supporters to assume it agrees with them.

To follow up my last post: Aren't tax rates about as low as they've ever been? I assume that he mean repealing the ACA, but does that mean "America was great" because all those people didn't have health insurance?

Everyone has their negatives ;) That isn't enough to make him a bad choice (relatively) for me.

I've been curious about him for awhile but never looked into him until yesterday. I almost started this thread myself. I've read some of his platform, I'm interested to hear what others here think. He did good (well-spoken I mean) in the last debates which is what made him stand out to me.

Has anyone else noted the Rubio campaign slogan?

I did and I found it to be rather odd:

A NEW AMERICAN CENTURY

It would be quite difficult for any American President to define how things will be 100 years from now so I sure cannot understand what it is that Rubio is trying to communicate.

See, this is what we're talking about. Even I could almost get behind a handsome new face, until he opens his mouth. And every single one of them has some kind of horrible fatal flaw like this, and yet the GOP majority keeps letting them talk.

Everyone running against him is a doddering old fool. He agrees with everything they believe most deeply in their pocketbooks, but rejects their old doddering not-him-ism.

Why, thank you for noticing.

To me the question would be: Is it something he is passionate about or something he agrees with in order to get money?

I feel like all politicians have to take a few positions to get their base and that seems to be a hot one for the GOP.

I knew you were going to, but I didn't want you to do all the hard work alone. Selfless, at least that's what people tell me.

In other words, yeah, I looked around assuming there would be a thread where I could read up on this guy, but most of the comments about him have been in threads about other people. Including my own comments about him being to shy looking and lacking confidence.

Fatal Flaw #2:

Mr. R is 100% against all abortion, even in cases of rape or incest.

Completely boring. Born in Florida. If it was at least Puerto Rico. But there was this:
His mother made at least four trips back after Castro’s victory, including for a month in 1961. She is a Castro spy!

For those that enjoy the rambling of conspiracy theorists. #MicrosoftRubioFraud

Rubio outperformed his polling
Microsoft is a major Rubio donor
A Microsoft app was used to report results
=>
Caucus was rigged for Rubio against Trump!!!1!

That is just the sort of short and concise post I needed. Thanks.

I could almost ignore this about a politician, though, because it's the devil's knitting to get changed at this point. But climate change denial, real or pandered, suggests not only will nothing positive be done about climate change but moneyed interests will continue to operate unimpeded in further contribution of the problem.

I saw both Cruz and Rubio profiled on PBS last night. I was disturbed by their comments about following the teachings of Jesus Christ, about being guided by God, that America has to align itself with Jesus. We can't continue to ignore the lessons contained in scripture, we have to live in the way that God wants us to or there is no hope for this country.

I thought I fell asleep and woke up in Iran! Everybody is entitled to their religious beliefs but America is supposed to be a secular democracy.

Cruz scares me and Rubio makes me uncomfortable.
