PHOENIX -- Gov. Jan Brewer signed legislation designed to give parents more rights over what the lessons and materials used at public schools.

SB 1453 requires school to obtain "signed, written consent' from a parent or guardian before using a video, audio or electronic materials "that may be inappropriate for the age of the student.'

The law, which will take effect later this summer, also says parents have a right to review learning materials in advance. More to the point, it says a parent can request to withdraw a student from the activity, class or program if the material is considered "harmful.'...

Ok, I was thinking of starting a topic on this, but frankly all my topics suck so might as well keep the quantity low. Not only that, I already know I'd be outvoted 3 to 1 in thinking that Joe needs to spend some time in his own jail.

The evil liberals complaining this weekend are mental health advocates. How dare a group of people speak up for those who are clearly criminals, or wanna be criminals. We should laugh at them.

More than 25 percent of inmates in Maricopa County Jail admit to being diagnosed with mental illness, so Sheriff Joe Arpaio stood a good chance of offending mental-health advocates when the Sheriff's Office recently launched a new online contest asking website visitors to vote for their favorite inmate-booking photos.

I happen to agree with poster Caspar the friendly ghost on this one, who posts:

1) As the article states most of the people are being derided even though they have not been convicted of a crime.

2) Degrading any Prisoner is no way of providing an incentive for good behavior.

3) Angry Prisoners are dangerous to the staff and other prisoners.

4) It's degrading to the men and women who work in the Maricopa County Sheriff Department, and it portrays the very business of law enforcement in Maricopa County as trivial and unprofessional.

Coconino County is betterer than is Maricopa County

A 21-year-old man who plunged in his car 200 feet over the South Rim of the Grand Canyon has walked away with minor injuries.

A spokesperson for Grand Canyon National Park said the man's vehicle landed in a tree 200 feet below Twin Overlooks on Desert View Drive.

Ok. Happy that this is not going to end badly, but a little sad. Driving around the GC without a date?

The incident occurred Monday around 7:45 p.m. when the man said he accidentally drove his vehicle over the rim. When the vehicle came to rest, he said he crawled out, climbed back up to the rim and flagged a passing motorist, who called park rangers.

So he's like, Ironman but more lucky. What are the chances of a motorist actually stopping for someone who looked like they just escaped death?

The man was treated at the scene and refused an air ambulance ride. Instead, he was transported by ground ambulance to Flagstaff Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

And intelligent! If he had taken the air ambulance, we'd a probably billed him a lot for the rescue.

Rangers returned Tuesday morning and found the vehicle lodged in a tree where the driver said it was. They are still developing a plan to remove the vehicle.

Arizona Official State Gun: Ruger

Ha! no, just kidding. Ruger only manufatures in the state and was voted one of Forbes best 100 small businesses.

The official state gun is now Colt. Known mostly for its efficent killing of Indians in the wild west and even more efficent lobbying efforts to worthless politicans.

Arizona is getting an official firearm _ the Colt Single-Action Army revolver.

Gov. Jan Brewer on Thursday without comment signed a bill passed by the Legislature to designate the weapon as the state's first official firearm.

Connecticut-based Colt had lobbied for the legislation.

Legislative supporters argued that the designation was appropriate because the revolver was widely used during Arizona territorial days.

The idea of a state gun is kinda lame, but if they are going to do it we should at least get some money for it. Colt will presumably benefit from the law they wrote and handed over to their Tea Puppets.

Three Maricopa County sheriff's employees, including a deputy in the human-smuggling unit, were arrested Tuesday by authorities who say they were involved in a drug- and human-trafficking ring and used Sheriff's Office intelligence to guide smugglers through the Valley.

Deputy Alfredo Navarrette, 37, has worked with the Sheriff's Office for nearly a decade, serving in a special unit designed to target human smugglers moving through Maricopa County. But investigators believe Navarrette was himself involved in human smuggling. Investigators found two undocumented immigrants in Navarrette's home when he was arrested early Tuesday morning in a sweep that concluded a yearlong investigation.

"The fight against drugs, illegal immigration and human trafficking is important not only to me but the citizens of Arizona," Sheriff Joe Arpaio said. "That a deputy sheriff would provide information and associate with these drug and human traffickers is despicable."
