So...America is so polarized that with ballot issues and the almost split right down the middle it could be a tie. Then what?

If you mean electoral tie, which might have already been covered, then the house votes on the president. And I think the senate votes on the VP.

Bush/Edwards 2004!!!

And if it's a tie in one of the states, then each party will just play with the votes until one party can get a mildly convincing argument that they are in fact winning by three votes, thusly making the state go to them.

Or maybe Kerry should just get a pointy stick since he would ban assault rifles.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it pretty much a tie last time GWB was elected ?
(Except in Florida of course.)

I heard on the news that in event of a tie (same electorial votes) the House of Reps makes the decision. Currently the house is majority Republican. I'll hazard a guess that it'll be a Bush/Weasel win.

Charlie (I like Burr/Hamilton solution as well) Monoxide

there's been some guy, a republican, threatening to not cast his electoral vote for Bush. sorry, don't know the electorates name.

that'd be interesting.

(apparently there are some states where the electorates are not required by law to follow what the people voted for)
